Review of chapter "Chapter Thirty-Three" from Ltlconf
Review:
Howdy!

Oops, now the cat is further out of the bag...And we know Angel's tendency to assume the worst on anything, so no clue how he's gonna take forthcoming bit of information. Just that it won't be along the lines of "oh, well. That's cool."

Yeah, the Mayor is indeed pulling strings and playing on emotions. But what makes him so GOOD at it is that never out-right lies, and is often quite sincere about everything to boot! He genuinely cared for Faith (to the point of risking the throwing away of his total victory), accurate about the doomed nature of Angel and Buffy's relationship (as was Spike), and while evil to the bone the Mayor was never one to cause unnecessary suffering (of course, being evil his definition of "unnecessary" is...unique).
All this, combined with his patience, real skill, intelligence, charisma, very real affection for Faith, and immense resources made Mayor Wilkins the best villain the show (both shows, really) ever had. And you're using every bit of all these attributes beautifully!
You never paint him as any less a sociopathic genius, but strangely likable all the same. And that's truly scary in a villain!

A good analysis of Angel's thinking. Not sure I agree totally that this how he'd be thinking at this moment, but then you've had a good many events changed at this point. I can accept this would have some very real, and likely large, ripples that would change all the character's POVs by this point. So, what the hell, I'm on board 100% with this interpretation.

Nice touch on Willow leaving out that in her original reality Faith wasn't expected to survive her little blood donation to Angel (well, wasn't going to survive, period, since everyone assumed "have to drain a Slayer" meant total fatal draining)...and that Willow cheered Buffy on. Last thing they need at this point is more internecine conflict and mistrust! Shows Willow, despite all, is still up to thinking on her feet at a moment's notice without even pausing to think about it. Nope, problem comes up, instant diplomatic solution.
Gibbs, though, will likely figure out the implications right quick! And to him it'll be what it would been: An attempted murder of Faith by Buffy. Didn't happen in this reality, but it gives him insight into what Buffy is capable of when pushed. To him now, once he puts it together, Buffy is every bit as capable of cold, premeditated murder as Faith...if the right buttons are pushed. Gonna change somewhat how he sees and treats Buffy: She may still be a self-centered teen, but also a warrior more than capable of killing a human being without remorse (in fact, Buffy has a respectable human body count already, but Gibbs I don't think knows that bit of info).

A fine bit of story (loved Xander getting the drop on Angel) and hope the next chapter is soon.

"Perceptive."
The fact you had Faith use such a word correctly in terms of definition and in means of of the its use in sarcasm is one reason I love this story. While about Willow, you don't ignore others and ignore fanon in favor of canon.
Same applies to your portrayal of the Mayor: While certifiably insane and evil, he does genuinely try to avoid inflicting unnecessary pain and cares for those who work for him. You show this repeatedly yet never drift into revisionism one way or the other. Nope, Wilkins is indeed 100% evil...just not rude about it.

And poor Buffy. You show her this chapter finally crawling out her PTSD-induced navel-gazing and make her genuinely sympathetic, sad, and even tragic. No mean feat considering how the others (and the readers by default) have seen her up to now! That took skill.
Good touch with Buffy's musings over Giles and his relationship with magic and thus Willow. True she's a bit off in her conclusions, but they're logical ones and show that Buffy's back in the game psychologically. She's THINKING again, and Buffy was always most effective when she tried to think things through rationally and bounced ideas off others. Good to see this starting up again.

Yeup, this story is worth the wait for each chapter and only gets ever more complex.

Well, it looks like a lot of questions are going to have to be answered. And, I don't trust Snake a lot at ALL! The Mayor is lying through his soon to be forked Tongue! No, he wants to use Sunnydale as a base to expand his power to the point where he rules the Earth. And the sooner he is taken out, THE BETTER!

Ah well, is not fair to blame Buffy of everything, but still want to think that's better if W leaves the Hellmouth.

Sounds like the Mayor is playing games with Willow and many others. And it is causing many to wonder if taking him on is the right thing. Time for Red to do her part to help out, for this creature not only is threatening her, but her FAMILY as well!
