"“Get in trouble for going through Mother’s Watcher journals.”"

My initial reaction to that was to immediately think "Oh, dear..." then literally laugh out loud. Thanks, I needed that! Thanks also for the update and I'm very much looking forward to the next bit.

I love it! Mamma Mallard was a watcher. Ducky's adorable. I love the last line in this chapter. I hope they're able to find something to help out the gang.

Thanks for writing. I do so enjoy a good Willow story. Take care.

Not really a big thing, but just a casual comment...

I wonder how old Ducky was when he tried that? Trying to picture a kid or teen Ducky rummaging around in mum's drawers (that's the furniture, not the underwear) and closets.

Okay, so we have Kate who survived a vampire attack, and Ducky, whose mother was a Watcher...I would be surprised if Tony didn't know of a demon or two from his time on the PD...McGee and Abby are actually the only ones I CAN'T see having had history with vamps.

For one thing, you can't romanticize vamps if you've actually encountered them, and Abby does.

For another, McGee is too innocent at heart to have encountered them.

But that's the only two i couldn't see as knowing something.

GAH! I hate WIPs! But this one pulled me in with the intriguing beginning and the good writing.

*sigh* I'm yours. Please be gentle and do finish this story eventually, if possible.

Also, congratulations on getting published! Go you! I hope your book does very well and that the sequel does too.

What indeed? Willow's desire to do dangerous and interesting things out of her own interest is quite well documented before she starts wtih magic, even. Like keeping bits of Ted. But Giles and Buffy did have a habit of asking a lot of her, and not giving her the guidance and training she needed.

Thanks for writing

Howdy!

Wilkins was always more than just your typical villain. In his own deeply sociopathic way he truly cared for Faith and lavished more care and attention on her than he had to by far. She had no place to go and actually expected nothing out of him but a paycheck and protection. He earned her blind loyalty either through magic (it is hinted at IF you want to read it that way) or simply because he treated Faith better than the GOOD guys EVER did. At his worst to her he was still warmer and more caring than Giles would ever be to Faith.
Only Joyce came close.
Like I said, in his twisted way Wilkins did believe what he said so he would actually feel he's giving Faith and now Willow what they need and deserve: a father figure who cares and is there for them. All he asks in return is a little murder and blind loyalty.....
Like I said, sociopathic.

Also do NOT forget the Mayor is NOT trying to destroy the world and has no intention to do so even accidentally. I mean, why do you think he's let Buffy run around this long: She's pest control!
Remember, he or Faith coulda taken out Buffy and Scoobs at any time they wished. They knew where they all lived, who their loved ones were, and their schedules.
He had far more vamps and demons working for him than Angelus EVER did and look what that monomaniacal maniac accomplished: Assaulted the Slayer's strong hold and managed to take out their witch, kill a slayer, take Giles and, had he wished, been able to set fire to the whole thing and likely killed the injured and helpless Xander and Willow.
Now imagine the more sane Faith or far more competent Mayor (both in comparison to first Angelus then Spike)...and three times the vamps and NO KENDRA to help weed them down. Frankly they're lucky only Angelus and Spike ever tried it and when neither vamp was truly serious about killing them right then.
Or Faith and help coulda done to Buffy, Willow, Oz, Xander, and Giles what she did to the Proff and/or Angel (knife from ambush or arrow from 300m...or hell, just a good 'ol bomb to make the point!).
Nothing they could do about it. Faith never did it. In fact, she has the lowest body count of any of the big bads.

The Mayor intends to, as Anya points out...and then largely ignored on this point, eat the graduating class and audience, gain power through this, and then LEAVE (remember this is NOT the first Ascension ever). Likely he intended to run the town through Faith if the tape in Sn4 is any indication. Wilkins was power hungry, but not the typical "Big-Bad" megalomaniac world destroyer. He also read the "Evil Overlord Handbook" and actually used skilled subordinates, let them show initiative, and even forgave honest mistakes and screw ups. He would even be genuinely concerned about their welfare! This gained him loyalty. Makes him VERY dangerous!

Willow knows all this thanks to her implanted hindsight (also why she's not freaked by her sexuality and other issues) and has planned accordingly. She knows EXACTLY what Wilkins has to do and when, and this gives her power. The Mayor can only react to what she does while Willow can act at any time to ruin his plan. Worse Wilkins has no clue HOW she could do it (though increasingly aware of the possibility)!
Personally I think Willow's overconfident...but then so is Wilkins. Both are about to find that out I think.

Oh, the High School aged Faith and late 30s Tony? I also do the full-body shudder...
Plus Gibbs would SHOOT him.
Alot.
Starting at his feet, working his way up to the face and then ending at certain delicate parts.
On the other hand Faith yanking Gibbs' chain like that is a sure sign of affection. It also makes Gibbs show his protective side which is again what Faith is aiming for: proof he cares. As they say "negative attention is still attention." In this case it's good all 'round and we know Gibbs likes being the dad.

Oh, and considering how Cordy NEVER mentions her parents again after the IRS thing and rarely before, I think it's possible they neglect Cordy as badly as Willow's do her. Just a plot idea.

The Cracker!
Comments from author:
You can post publicly if you want. I rarely ever notice if it says public or private when referring to the review itself - I just read the content of the review. I always love your comments, though - helpful to some extent, at least. Although, I do notice that many of your comments are geared more toward the series itself rather than the fic. However, that is a good thing because you have a good and clear and complex perspective. (Trust me, complex is a good thing; a lot of people don't always realize how truly complicated everything in the Buffyverse is.)

Of course, in my story, Willow is getting scary close to breaking under the pressure. She has many of her friends but that makes her even more alone. When it was Faith alone seeking her for help and protection, it was a burden but bearable. Now, she's added four more and with the possible exception of Wesley, they all look to her for guidance. *sigh* Also, the point that she was going to bring up before she was interrupted by Gibbs' phone call was that they needed to plan for the possibility that the Mayor would find out about their duplicity. I also feel bad for Willow in this story - being so busy with the upcoming Ascension, she hasn't had the time to truly deal with the memories of the other-Willow that now live in her brain.

Oh, oh! And I could use your feedback on this, because you're one of my more intellectual readers. Do you think I should have Gibbs at the graduation?
