Review of chapter "Self-Defense With Sookie" from Catlimere
Love these outtakes. The Buffy/Sam moments are just chock full of cuteness, but not sickeningly sweet. I love the picnic and Buffy's thought about being in a country song. A very Buffy thought, imo. I also liked Sam trying to improve Buffy's driving skills. Not only a good idea, but a nice way for the two to spend time together. While things may end up Buffy/Eric in the main story (which I have admitted to rooting for now, lol), I like these glimpses of moments between Buffy and Sam.
Regarding Sookie learning self-defense, it's about time. :) Really, I am surprised in all the human meets supernatural world stories out there, that the human isn't immediately looking for every way to protect themselves as much as possible. I like that Buffy and Sookie get along so well. I am looking forward to seeing if Sookie gets a chance to surprise Bill with some of her newly acquired skills.
Comments from author:
I'm so glad you like these! Before moving on to the third book, I wanted to fill in some of the blanks during that time period, but these ideas kept popping up in my head and I decided it was time to do some ficlets. Especially with Buffy and Sam, since a lot their cute moments were kind of left to the imagination. And, even though the main story will more than likely end up being Buffy/Eric, I still enjoy the fluffy Buffy/Sam moments. :-)
I also agree, I don't understand why the human doesn't immediately try to learn self-defense or other ways to defend and protect themselves. (I even feel that way with Xander, even though I understand he learned a lot from watching Buffy, how come not once did he ask Giles for some extra physical help or even Buffy? I do like, however, how Dawn asked Buffy to train her at the beginning of season 7.) Plus, that little ficlet between Buffy and Sookie will add to the next part of the main story. :-)
And, I was even starting to feel as though there weren't enough regular moments between the two.
Thanks so much for the review, as always! :-)
