If she recovers later, and she should, Mystique will spend decades setting up everyone involved to crash and burn.

Interesting, but X3 gave a hint that the 'cure' is not so permanent as they hoped. And with Mystique as one of Xavier's students in the new X-Men movie she is much younger. And her real name is Raven Darkholme.
Comments from author:
Glad that you found it interesting.

In order....

1. That hint would not be apparent to those who took/were given/forced to take 'the cure' within the immediate or first few weeks time-frame of this ficlet. It was presumed (or at least hyped as) to be a permanent effect. Should the scientists and researchers involved have any hint at that time about a limited effect, you can bet that they wouldn't start spreading that to a 'former mutant criminal' subdued by the serum.

2. I haven't seen anything about the content of X-Men: First Class and therefore am not taking anything about it into consideration for Locked Mystique.

3. Do you really think that she wants to tell those people her real name (or what we're presuming is her real/current name as the comics have told us)? No - I stated that she didn't tell them a name, she said that she'd always been Mystique and needed no other name (she's been a shape-shifter, spy and assassin for who-knows-how-long, a few lies about her past are quite the normal thing for her). So since 'Mystique' is the name of the mutant that she isn't anymore (so they hope/want her to believe) then she needs a new name, especially for documentation and forms. Habituating her into using a normal sounding name sounds like a good point of rehabilitation, if that is the goal rather than 'lock her up and throw away the key'. The name Misty Newman sounds very human and ordinary, the perfect sort of thing to suggest to her that she is now human and ordinary.

Review of chapter "Chapter One" from Harry
Review:
A very interesting story. It shows what could have happened after x-3 (Which I personally considered a DISASTER of a movie!) to one of the most dangerous of Magneto's followers. To see what happened to her is very interesting indeed.
