::snicker:: Truly a beautiful job of turning the tables on the old manipulator; he doesn't have a good choice, just has to pick which he considers "less bad". I wish him luck (ill luck, but luck none the less).

Giving Albus a choice with 'Uber-Suck' and 'Even More Uber-Suck' as his only options is only fair, to my mind, since he's screwed with so many people's lives. Especially since he never really gave anyone else even the illusion of a choice regarding what he wanted them to do. ;-)

Oh, this is GREAT! I shared it with my wife as soon as I finished it. 'The Greater Good' has always stuck in my (metaphoric) craw when a certain aged manipulator nods sagely and bemoans the inevitability of Harry making the sacrifice. Well Played; Well stated. Grin.

Glad you enjoyed the story. ;-)
I've always wanted to shove Dumbleore's teeth down his throat when he takes about the necessity of making sacrifices. As far as I'm concerned, the British Wizarding World should be burnt to the ground, and the ashes salted, and all memory of it allowed to fade into oblivion.

BWAHAHAhahahaha!!!!!!! }:-> That was absolutely fucking hilarious. Well done. Not very likely I'll admit but certianly enjoyable to read. Pity it's not a joke you could turn into an epic fic of 50k or more.

Thanks.
And yes, this works best as a short one-shot.

This pegged and broke my AwesomeFiclet-o-Meter. Placing Dumbassdore into the exact position he so easily threw so many others...
And worst of all - he'll lost everything no matter which way he turns. If he refuses, that's the end of it. But if he says he'll do it and then harbors sufficient resistance to the idea when he casts that spell, I think it'd fail - and have the exact same result as if he'd refused in the first place. Dumbassdore would be seen perfectly willing to send *every one and everything else to their deaths* so long as he remains as the guiding goodly headmaster of it all.
Totally awesome.

And there is no way Dumbledore cannot lose in this scenario. ;-)

'Tis funny for fanon, but as we discussed over on 3 or 4 part harmony a few weeks ago; in canon, "For the Greater Good" was Grindlewald's catch phrase, and was a line that deluded Dumbledore into the situation that got his sister killed. I doubt he'd willingly use it. So presuming a manipulative Dumbledore, it could work, but since that discussion that particular phase has rankled for me... Kinda spoils an otherwise good one-shot. On the other hand, the Snape bashing was fun
Comments from author:
First off, Snape bashing is always fun. ;-)
And I find it impossible to believe that Dumbledore is anything other than an extremely manipulative bastard, regardless of what JKR might insist, since anyone acting that way in society would be lucky if they got off with an insanity defense when they were finally hauled into court on charges of kidnapping, child abuse, child abandonment, mismanagement of the Potter estate, fraud, embezzlement and a host of other possible charges.

Somehow I just can't see the Headmaster actually doing the spell. I mean, how can the rest of the Society of Chickens know what the Greater Good is without DD telling them what the Greater Good is? The bastard.
Comments from author:
Yeah, DD is in a major lose-lose situation, regardless of which option he chooses to take.
What a shame. ;-)
