Review of chapter "The Demon Alcohol." from maxthehobbit
Review:
As soon as I read the part where Willow talks about a rabbit 'god' I started laughing and could image Faith as a giant rabbit eating all the carrots. The scientists bickering with each other was also funny, can't say I know any scientists, but I have had to work with dozens of engineers and they pretty much act the same way. Buffy hitting bottom with her alcohol addiction was very well-done and I can just imagine how Kennedy is going to be hard on Buffy when it comes to drinking, but your Kennedy has a soft heart, so I think she'll also temper her 'hardness' with actually helping Buffy. Another really great story. Thanks.

I used to work at a University, I know how scientists act!
Thank-you, D.

Review:
I never would have thought a slayer could become an alcoholic. I seem to recall other authors having slayers able to quickly metabolize the alcohol (which is why they never got drunk).
Comments from author:
I don't think theres any evidence from the series that Slayers can't get drunk.
Buffy didn't drink because she didn't like the taste (I think). However cold vodka is more or less tasteless and being in/near Middlesbrough is enough to make a Saint start drinking...heavily!
Cheers, D.

Howdy Dave!
Was kinda curious as to iffin who survived other that Dawn and Faith...then did't over much as the image of Rabbit-Faith all passed out from gorgin' on space carrots hit the brain! Rabbit-Faith huggin a relieved Dawn was equally cute. Boy is Faith NEVER gonna live this one down!
Buffy as a mean drunk, damn whatta sight. Bein' the control freak that she is...well on one had I find hard ta buy her lettin herself go like that. On the other hand she did in another fashion once before. And as a bit of a homophobe? Damn! Its like they say, they're all cool with it til it visits their house! Oh maybe its that Buffy feels no one needs her anymore, or bit of it all mixed all together? Waitin' eagerly for the next season!
The Cracker!
Comments from author:
So many things came to a head in Buffy's life I'm not surprised it sent her over the edge. The loneliness, Faith 'stealing' her sister, the struggle to get the Slayer Organisation up and running. No one noticing she's climbing into a bottle.
I feel sorry for the poor girl and next season I'll do something nice for her...promise!
Cheers, Dave.

I wanted to say that I like just about everything you have written. You have a way of writing that brings out all of each characters strengths and flaws. Yet, when you are putting them through hell and back, you do not bash any of the characters in the process of examining their flaws. I think that ability to take both the good and the bad of a character and make good use of all of it makes for good writing. I have seen many fan fiction writers fail at that. I think that you efforts to vindicate Kennedy may have shaped that and I am glad to see it applied to everyone you write about.
Now as to this story. I thought that the use of the same entity that Kennedy and Tina faced in your Seattle Slayers story “WABBITS!” was an inspired way to deal with the "Vampire Carrot". It is to bad that Anya is not around to see it as her reaction to a Bunny-Faith would have been hilarious.
Finally I was surprised that you made "Demon Alcohol" a chapter at the end of this story as in the series summery it is listed as a septate story. Still I do like your Buffy alcoholism storyline in this series. I have often thought that Season 6 of Buffy would have been better if the storyline had dealt with Buffy drinking instead of the sex with Spike situation. Do you think Buffy has PTSD as well? I am hopeing that the next story "Another Brick in the Wall" with Buffy and Kennedy gives more exploration of Buffy working on overcoming her alcoholism. Did you have the Kennedy also being an alcoholic laid out before hand? I am trying to remember if you had clues in earlier stories.
Overall I think you have done a great job with this series. I am looking forward to the next part.
Comments from author:
Ok, thanks for your very nice review.
As for putting 'Demon Alcohol' at the end of the story; well, the sad thing is people don't read songfics, and generally I understand why. Apart from a very few that I've read they're pretty cringe worthy! So I added it to this story to ensure that at least some people got to read it.
Bunny-Faith, actually I'd sort of let the fic take on a life of its own and I suddenly had the problem of how D&F were going to get out of this situation. That night I watched 'Curse of the Were-Rabbit' and I thought 'why not?' Rabbits keep popping up in my stories and I remembered something about a Native American 'god' so away we went. As I've mentioned else where we've not seen the last of Bunny-Faith. And yes its such a pity Anya's not around.
Alcoholism. I have hinted at Kennedy's drink problem before by saying how she only ever took one drink, a glass of wine with dinner, a cocktail by the pool and then she stops. I'd noticed how Joyce used to drink at times of stress and I talked to friends who had more experience of alcohol abuse. They told me that it would make Buffy more likely to drink if her mother had too. And yes I agree S6 would have been better if it was drink rather than sex.
Kennedy, I started writing Kennedy mainly because people were so nasty about her and I couldn't understand why. She loved Willow (I'd always liked Willow) and she called Buffy on stuff, she was brave and a leader. Yet everyone hated her...go figure!
Buffy, PTSD? All I'm gonna say is...not yet! I worry some times, I like Buffy but I'm being so mean to her, I must do something nice for her soon.
Thank-you once again, Dave.

My computer died so I'm sorry I haven't commented on your story for a bit. While I enjoyed your story, I'm sorry you killed everyone but Faith and Dawn. But then you have an annoying habit of killing characters I like. I still remember the Three Bears! Lol! Glad to see Buffy have her "Come to Jesus" moment. Mine wasn't nearly as dramatic. I just realized I had to stop drinking or I was going to die. Lol!
In the movie the saucer burned up. Isn't yours still on the bottom of the lake? Lucky RAF. Your logical conclusion that defeating an invasion of Evil Blood Sucking Carrots would take a giant rabbit was inspired. I was hoping you would save one of the scientists survive so Faith could say the immortal words of "What's up, Doc?" And Dawn and Faith now have a new role-playing fantasy! Lol!
I look forward to your next epic. But don't let Buffy get away with any s**t. We drunks need to work for our salvation. Lol!
Comments from author:
Do you think Buffy's gonna have it easy with Kennedy to keep an eye on her?
NO WAY!
You know because I had 'Curse of the Were-Rabbit' at the back of my mind I completely forgot the 'What's up Doc?' thing...wascally wabbits!
There could be a few more survivors I just didn't bother because it wasn't important, but you never know next time there's aliens... Anyway PO Dukes got away!
Cheers, Dave.
PS; Hope your computer is in good working order!

And Faith had a veggie binge to end all veggie binges, cool!. Well, Ozzy is the prince of Darkness, and lord of all those we love metal \m/... altough, it's kinda funny watching Buffy using him as the face of a foe she cannot vanquish. I hope she can find the measure of peace she needs, now she's looking for help =). Cool fic dude, see ya!!.
Comments from author:
Buffy find peace!?!? You know that's not gonna happen, however I think it's safe to say that she gives up the vodka.
Cheers, Dave.

OK, wasn't expecting that outcome - Does Willow know about Kennedy?
And how did you resist making it a "Curse of the Were-Rabbit" crossover - or will that be the sequel?
Comments from author:
I think Willow suspects Kennedy has a dark secret (or two), she's probably blinded herself to what's really happened to Buffy.
Curse of the Were-Rabbit? Do you really think we've seen the last of 'Bunny-Faith'? MAW-HA-HA!
Grim Up North (the series) will be finished in a story or three. There is, however, a Grim up North II planned so who know what I might come up with.
Cheers, Dave

You know Faith is NEVER gonna live this down right? The first words to Dawn when she's back ta normal are gonna be "We never speak of this...ever."
Don't worry Dykes, stayin' and fightin' ta the last man in a truly hopeless situation where it only addin' ta your sides's body count is only heroic in movies...in real life its called stupidity.
Loved how Willow was all but fallin apart over the fear on not bein able ta save Dawn...and Faith. Okay, maybe she actually likes Faith now. Even 'fore Dawn they had alot in common, what with the dance with the dark side and such so they can relate. Still, touchin' how she was truly desperate ta find somethin', anythin' ta save the pair.
This story swings from terror ta comedy like a playground swingset and it's great! I'd make a Bugs Bunny comment, but as all the good ones have been done.....

Comments from author:
The thing about Willow (I think), is that she really wants to help to try and make things better. Even if she actually makes things worse.
She's softened towards Faith, because Willow loves Dawn and Faith love Dawn too. It would put too much of a strain on her friendship with Dawn if she didn't 'forgive and forget' where Faith was concerned.
Anyway, didn't Faith hit Willow back in S3? Willow's done a lot worse since then.
I also write this series so Kennedy likes Faith (she wants to take Faith home so she can scare her step-mother!). They also both enjoy slaying and they do say opposites attract.
So Willow has two people she loves telling her that Faith is ok now. It would take someone harder hearted than Willow to ignore this.
Faith Lehane-Super Bunny Girl! I think Dawn will keep it to herself without prompting. However I don't think this is the last we'll see of Bunny-Faith!
Cheers, Dave.

Ya know I tried that...didn't work worth a damn. Embarrassin' too as I'm from the coast.
Anywho, sad 'bout Sarah as I liked her. Seemed one of the solid sorts in the mess. 'Course it'll make Faith fight all the harder now that someone she personally liked is dead. Too bad Carrington was unconscious when he bought it. Woulda been nice ta see him squirm and plead and poor Sarah be mercifully unconscious! But hey, it ain't horror and suspense without, well, horror and suspense. So pissed off, now I'll cheer on Faith all the more!
