Review of chapter "Xander, the Vampire Slayer" from kdakmmt
Interesting story. I am a Xander fan but I prefer the fic versions since canon Xander was boned by Joss after season 3. I enjoy reading these kinda fics even when its anti Xan.

Yes! Down with SuperXander! I loved canonXander, but was very disappointed when I started reading fanfic and discovered superXander. I feel it really taints the canon Xander who, despite having no supernatural powers, still was brave enough to stand up to the monsters. The amount of superXander-anti_Buffy fics out there makes me sick sometimes. So thank you for writing this! :)

Personally I always thought the whole girl-slayer thing had something to do with having a womb, 'cause in the Buffy-movie Buffy got cramps that was acting as a warning system for when vampires were near. But I don't know if the movie is considered cannon though.
Comments from author:
I really didn't start to hate Xander until I read fanfic. Don't get me wrong, he was never a favorite character of mine to begin with, but it became vehement loathing with fanfic.

Don't think the movie was canon...just 'cause there are waaaay too many discrepancies between it and the show.

Firstly, I am a Xanderfan and not really a fan of most of your work. However I do find this one kind of funny.
In regards to superXander Fics, there are a few that I enjoy b/c they still manage to balance the characters. That being said, as a Xanderfan, I prefer Bat!Xander to Super!Xander, that is to say,
a skilled Xander who works to get there and kick ass like Batman would
Anyway decent fic

That's what I'm talking about, skill gained over time through experience, not instant godlike power
Comments from author:
Can't say that skill will *always* triumph over power, but it usually helps. And if you can have both? Heck, on Smallville, Clark had to train his abilities, although I think it was goofy that it took him 10 years to learn to fly when he was floating in the pilot episode.

EDIT: Yeah, Buffy was this mystically chosen warrior, but Merrick and Giles still made her train all time; Wes tried to.

Review of chapter "Xander, the Vampire Slayer" from Mcspender
So Xander had a psychotic break, because he was possessed by a very strong and aggressive spirit, and got himself killed when that spirit saw the extent of it mistake, an spirit that desert him, and left him to die an ignoble death when it saw its primary host near?.
The way I see it, Xander was a victim of yet another possession, a victim of a uncaring demon; nice to see the back draws of such thing, usually many writers show only the positive effects.
See ya!!.
Comments from author:
I guess you could interpret it that way if you want to. Glad you liked it, regardless of the reasons you like it.

Perfect! Xander's death was icing on the cake. LOL & I loved the Slayer essence being less than impressed with Xander. Hee! Fun one-shot! :D

Usually, I would not have read this story as I'm what you might consider a Xander-fan (but only when he is portrait normally...without the gain of sudden god-like powers...that's ain't Xander that's...something else...) but I have to say that I found the POV of the story interesting, though I think there is an actual canon reason why only girls are called. Not that I could remember it...I think it was passed down only in women...probably through some mystical means but as I said, can't remember.

Edit: Well, I do like Xander-centric fics and there are several which portrait Xander just fine with all the other characters acting just as fine without them suddenly doing things that makes you doubt you're reading a BtVS/A-fic and have stumbled into a OC-filled story with the characters just wearing the casts' names. Sadly, Xander seems to be the one most often stuck with Super!Xander or gaining of powers or HAVING powers all along just never showing them to the Scoobies...riiiiiight...'s not just Xander though...I seem to be very unlucky when reading a Willow-fic were Buffy is portrait to abuse her (and Xander & Giles on the side)...or a Buffy-centered fic where she is being abandoned by everyone for the most ridiculous reasons...or even a General fic with Willow acting so much like an evil mastermind thing, it was like the author had removed all of her original traits tried to make people you'd find on the Complete Monster TVtrope page go "Seriously, nobody can be that evil!" summarize this...I like all characters if they are as close to canon as possible personality-wise...sorry for the rant.
Comments from author:
I'm finding a lot of Xan-fans prefer the canon version over the fanfic one. The whole way the Slayer moved from girl to girl was something I'm not sure the writers ever fully worked out - even after 7+ years.

I actually don't think you really 'bashed' Xander in this story. He reacted like a normally testosterone poisoned teenaged boy would. In fact, he reacted more like a normal teenaged boy than canon Xander did. So I think that while you did kill him, you didn't bash him. Lol!
Comments from author:
Well, but it does fly in the face of the spirit of the challenge. Since the challenge was to basically bash Buffy, there was no way I could seriously answer it.

Review of chapter "Xander, the Vampire Slayer" from michaelangelo
On one hand I wouldn't call this a Xander bashing story, more a male bashing story I think, if you can call it that. Your idea works in a way, the Slayer essence seems to boost a persons natural instinctive feelings, in a female I figure that would be the urge to find the better mate, material gain and the mothering instinct. With a male it would be sex, protect the family and to prove themselves superior against challengers. So yes I can see that if the Slayer spirit suddenly flooding Xander's brain with these primal instincts may be too much and overload his common sense.

On the other hand the testosterone angle is badly thought out since females have it too, it's just 10 x stronger in males. The Master couldn't have thrown Xander into the Hellmouth since it was blocked at the time by Tiamat, he'd have bounced off or gotten torn apart/eaten. Finally adding personal comments about a situation IE: kneeing the master in the groin is just bad news and can turn people off a story by itself.

I don't understand how people can hate a character in a story, dislike I could understand. I don't dislike Angel but I do dislike Bangel, no matter how you look at it he's staggeringly older than her, peered at her through her bedroom window and followed her around without her knowledge, there's a name for that and frankly it's damn creepy. Not mentioning the disturbing relationship of a 16 year old girl and a way older man, if he'd been turned 60 years later he'd still be the exact same age just grey and wrinkly. Spike was bloody brilliant and hilarious then they went and f%&$£ it up with Spuffy.

Unless there was an excuse like possession or spell, having a character acting OOC just so an author can use the excuse to hate, like Buffy beating Xander to near death for lying for example makes any story weak and is usually the sign of a weak author, otherwise she would have killed Jenny Calender for her lie or Giles after the cruciamentum, Buffy would NOT hurt a normal person. The Hyena was a possession not an enhancement, the Shadow men imbued the first Slayer with the heart, soul and spirit of a powerful shadow demon and she stuck around and CAN influence people on the spiritual plane, just not possess.

Well, that review was longer than I thought it would be :)
Comments from author:
Well, I was trying to explain why the Slayer used girls and the difference in testosterone levels seemed the easiest way to do that. For a boy going through puberty, it would be enough to cause some problems.

Don't even ask me to defend BAngel or Spuffy. I will in a story because it's canon, but doing so makes me want to bath in bleach water to feel clean again.

I like your point about Buffy not physically hurting people who betray her. Just wish that the rabid anti-Buffy fans would realize it too. But that's why there are people who write for Xan-fans and people who write for Buffy-fans and people who write for the other characters; we all get somebody who agrees with us.

Take that! Super!Xander stories. ;-) That's part of what annoys me about the whole pile of them. It's not that Xander becomes powerful, it's that power is the be all and end all... training be damned.

EDIT: I really enjoyed this story and I do *love* Xander-the-real-character. One doesn't have to hate character to hate the Xander wank misogynist crap that the barely endowed love to write to self insert themselves into the Buffyverse.

Real-Xander would never recognize the person a lot of those fics create. Super!Xander's more like Owen... He wouldn't last a day in the real Buffyverse. Real-Xander's power isn't in his 'big stick' (whatever they power him up with). It's in his heart, his courage, his common sense, his anti-BS... He doesn't need the super powers, at least not the way they're usually given.
Comments from author:
I like the idea that powers are great, but trained powers are even greater.

I used to like the character of Xander - for the most part - but fanfic ruined him for me. Every once in awhile I try to resurrect who Xander should have been. Like the fic where he gave Buffy the *right* advice about Riley leaving.

Review of chapter "Xander, the Vampire Slayer" from SCIfilover
Well this is a strange fic, but I like it for what it is. This fic does have a problem of the Slayer essence being affected by Testosterone seeing as its an essence or 'soul' if you will and testosterone is a hormone or chemical. So, how in the hell does testosterone affect the essence of a slayer, it makes no sense to me.

To tell you the truth I don't particularly care about the characters of Xander, Buffy or Willow and how they re treated in fics as long as the fic is great I will read it no matter who the main character is or if their is bashing in the fic.

I do hate Buffy and Willow but its not because of how they treat Xander, I don't care how they treat Xander, but because of the wank that happens when they are the main characters in sci-fi or fantasy fandoms and they overpower those verses due to being slayers or witches that have been given a 40,000 powered upgrade from nowhere. They don't even have the excuse of Halloween to give them superpowers. They are written to be more competent and powerful than Galactus, Wolverine, Honor Harrington, Space Marines, Alucard and the list goes on; RAGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Comments from author:
I have no clue how the mystical world works, so having a spirit affected by testosterone makes as much sense to me as any other excuse somebody could come up with for why Slayers are only girls.

As for superpowering characters, unless a challenge specifically requested it - or the story is meant to be a parody-type fic, I hope I haven't and will never write one. The closest I've come so far is my 'The Queen of Slayers' and 'Charmed Places'. The sequel of the sequel to the second one will point out a limitation to Buffy's new powers. The first one was a response to a challenge, and even so, I'm making Buffy rely on other people for help.

Oh, I guess 'My Brother, Set' and its prequel would qualify too, but that was a Halloween fic.

Intriguing to think that the essence has its own mind. Very entertaining read :)
Comments from author:
It's often alluded to in fanfic that it's a separate part of Buffy - one I use a lot - so why not do a story mainly from its POV?

Not a fan of Super!Xander either, eh? A much needed antidote to all those bloody Xandercentric fics. Feel free to write more anti-Xander fics ;) I guess Buffy turning him down for the prom really pissed him off. Oh, and you managed to make Xander serve a useful purpose. That is, making Buffy angry enough to kill the Master.
Comments from author:
No, can't say that I am. And Buffy was already pissed enough to kill the Master, but I think in the aftermath of this one, she won't wait until season 2 to pound his bones to dust. Nobody thought that was strange? All vamps turn to dust, except for this guy who leaves a skeleton behind. I think I'd do some serious research as to why.

Review of chapter "Xander, the Vampire Slayer" from cryyhavoc
Question: why do you write these crappy, pedestrian, poorly worded, obviously biased, completely OOC fics.

Answer: to garner outlandish reviews to your perpetually poor attempts at writing.
Comments from author:
Actually, it's 'cause I know it makes people like you cringe in agony that your beloved Xander is being treated poorly. I am the Yin to the anti-Buffy writers Yang.

EDIT: By the way, if you think I'm just doing this for the reviews, why are you enabling me by leaving one? Please don't answer that, it was rhetorical. I'd be much happier if *you* hid all stories of mine without ever reading them.
