Well, if you can't send Willow, Oz, Buffy. Giles needs to stay for Buffy-that leaves Anya and Cordy.

Review of chapter "4: "He's in the past!"" from (Recent Donor)tchizek
Wow, this adds quite a bit to the first story.

I am not really sure who you should send, I would say Cordie but that just doesn't make sense. Faith would be cool but she is still in a coma, as I recall Amy is still a rat, Andrew would be worse that useless, another Watcher? but there really aren't any watchers that they can trust at this point, maybe an OC that Giles knows would work.

Great series I hope you continue it!
Comments from author:
I still have in mind who I'm going to send, but I'm stymied on the other story, so I'm branching into other areas at the moment.

Thanks for reading!

Review of chapter "4: "He's in the past!"" from (Current Donor)Katrina
I tend to read other people's reviews before posting my own, as mine usually end up being very simple posts of: enjoyed the story (which I did) and thank you (which I definitely mean).

I've been a longtime fan of the Ring of Fire series (even going so far as to read the grantville gazette...), so I was tickled to see this.

That said, I thought I'd answer your reply to the seed and care packages... I have to respectfully disagree. Yes, they might send holy water, but they do have Dr. Giles with them. He'd think of the things that they might need. Just thought I'd point that out, as he's now canon to your story. *grins*

Also, since you ask, I think if Willow wanted to go she'd be fine, so again, I'd respectfully disagree with the reviewer who counted her out due to witchiness, but that said, if she went she'd be unlikely to be able to come back and she does have Oz on this side...

Personally, I vote for an awakened Faith, who as a slayer, would have the strength and willpower to deal with hazards as they show up and who could use a "do-over."

And that said, finally, thank you again for sharing this story. I think that may be far more important than my opinions on what should, could or would happen in your fic. :)

*good thoughts*
Comments from author:
Sorry for the late reply. Thanks for your thoughts; but no-ones hit on who I'm still thinking of sending [though Faith was a strong second]. Still, until the other story is unstymied, it will have to sit and wait.

Thanks for reading and reviewing!

Review of chapter "4: "He's in the past!"" from Alkeni
Well, being a Cordelia/Xander shipper, I'd say send Cordelia, but I can't actually see Cordelia going, so that doesn't work.

They can't send Buffy - she's busy needing to be all slayer-y.....

Well, whoever you send, I eagerly await more. EPIC fic, EPIC idea.

Review of chapter "4: "He's in the past!"" from katfairy
How about Jonathan? They know him and at this point they get along with him when they remember he exists. Anya would be a BAD idea, even if she hadn't disappeared at this point in canon. (Although the idea of her giving a verbal bitchslap to Melissa Mailey gives me a happy.) Joyce might volunteer, but for obvious reasons, that wouldn't fly.

Sigh. Everyone else I can think of hasn't shown up yet. Tara would work, but it's too early in canon for her. Graham, same problem. Clem would be amusing, but again, he wasn't around yet.

Review of chapter "4: "He's in the past!"" from (Current Donor)vidicon
Very nice, hope to see the series continue soon. Like babbly Willow leaning more to tech than Wicca.

I do think that sending a woman would not be wise, the locals at least would not take her very seriously. Angel might want to go back to deal with Darla before he gets turned, but would that not upset the timeline? Or do they not care about that in an alternate universe? Also Xander hates him.

Giles might be the best fit, but he should not go, he's too important. Wesley is another choice, he indeed has no strong roots in the modern world. (See previous review)

Giles might think of a care package or two, if he's studied any of the history of the Thirty Years war.

Thanks for writing, Vid

Review of chapter "1: He's Missing!" from tactless
After reading this and it's sister story I went out and have spent the last week reading the 1632 series (Thank you, I'm about half way through the 1634 books) and I've given you question some thought and this is what I've come up with.

Buffy: No. For the reason you have given.

Willow: No. not only for the reason you've given, but for the fact that her showing up in 17th century Europe is a good way to get her burned at the stake.

Oz: No. See Willow.

Faith: Though I like the character: No. The gang will not trust her in any way for at leas an other four years, plus she's in a coma and there is an outside possibility that sending her could end the Slayer line.

Giles: No. After the last year there is no way the group would trust an other Watcher and he's needed on the Hellmouth.

Spike: Still a bad-guy.

Cordelia: No. Once again, I love the character, but she really has nothing to offer to improve Xander's situation and I'm not sure she would be able to survive at this point in her life.

Angel: No. Sending him on a one way trip to help Xander would be non-helpful. Plus, there is no guarantee where and when he would arrive (Night, or day. Inside, or outside). Sending Xander a pile of ash in the middle of the day would help nobody ;)

That leaves Westley.

No strong family connections. Capable researcher. Drifting around as a "Rouge Demon Hunter", so no prospects. And once he get past being the twit he was until after the second season of ATS capable all around.

As for what to take with whoever goes? I'm thinking, with the most someone is probably able to take being a back-pack and a bag in each hand, the best that can be reasonably taken would be survival gear, (they really don't know exactly where he will pop up) weapon/ammunition and a few basic, but vital books. I just can't see one person carrying enough of anything to make a big difference to the situation that wouldn't make the one person stipulation kinda silly. (As a wild example: If you send Giles and one hundred pounds of gear, why not send Giles carrying Buffy?)

Thanks for these stories and the novels you lead me to. I hope to see more soon.

Review of chapter "4: "He's in the past!"" from Gideon
ooh, who should they send? Someone with lots of knowledge of the period like a history professor, or someone with fighting ability and experience? I'm assuming that Willow can't send through a lot of stuff or I would suggest sending through a train full of ammunition and weapons. I know! Angel! They should send Angel :) He has experience of the time period, he has been all over Europe and he is tougher than the average Human and has fighting experience. Q.E.D.
Of course Xander would hate it :(

Review of chapter "4: "He's in the past!"" from kalahari
I don't see a point in sending anyone else on a one way trip after Xander.

What can an uptimer do that a downtimer can't do after some training?

Now sending care packages to Xander would be nice, but sending really helpful care packages would upset the balance of the 1632 storyline.

Really helpful would be:
- canola seed
- various seed potatoes well adapted to German climate
- various other seeds which would grow in German climate (not the high performance seeds, but those which will produce seeds themselves)
- a seed stock of sugar beets
- various sets of maps of Germany e.g. 1:25.000, 1:50:000 depending on available volume
- one or more copies of the German BGB from different times
- some German language science and engineering textbooks, preferable copies from before 1950
- a complete set of DIN standards up to 1950 or later
- a copy of the German "Grundgesetz" and maybe some law-books
Comments from author:
While you are right, those things would be useful, would the Scoobies, especially at that age, think to send them? Or would they send holy water, or books about demons? You have to keep in mind their bias.

And there is one person that would love to go back.

Great Willow babble, but I hope I am wrong in thinking you are going to send someone else back to join Xander.

Review of chapter "4: "He's in the past!"" from Marcel
Damn. I can't think of anyone who would be of any help except for Buffy and Faith... and Faith might be unwilling to help at this stage. Angel would have been good, but not being able to walk in the sun would be too big of a problem.

Nice story though, looking forward to what comes next.

A well written twist on the canon investigation using BtVS methods.
Comments from author:

I know it's short, but I'm trying to coordinate both stories for a decent cliffhanger. Which is tricky, but I'm going to try for it.
