I get the feeling you may be confused about the difference between speech tags and beats. It is possible to smile, grin, nod, or glare during an utterance, but it is not possible to smile, grin, nod, or glare the words themselves.

And in this one chapter your characters nod ten times! Do you really want that much nodding?
