Review of chapter "of Guilt" from (Current Donor)Sulien
Review:
Okay, the other parts of this story were very touching, but this chapter brought tears to my eyes. Of all that I've read about Finrod, I think your portrayal of him in these last two chapters was very, very accurate and I think the Professor himself would have enjoyed this story. Thank you for sharing.
Comments from author:
Thanks, I'm honoured by your words. I loved Finrod from the moment I first read about him and I'm glad I managed to convey taht love in writing.

Again, thank you for this. Galadriel is one of the most important characters in the Legendarium and though Tolkien wrote a fair amount about her, I don't recall ever reading anything that mentioned her thoughts. I love this story.
Comments from author:
Galadriel is very central and we really know very little about her. Strange isn't it?

Review:
It has always been a toss-up for me whether I loved Glorfindel or Finrod the most. I know that reading the death of Finrod has always hurt more than reading the death of Glorfindel. Glorfindel was a soldier and he died a soldier's death. Finrod was a great king and a philosopher, who died in a way I'd not wish on my worst enemy, but he did die doing what he believed was his duty. Yep, I love 'em both, but I definitely hurt more for Finrod.

That said, it's nice to see Thingol considering the utter stupidity of his actions and what he caused. Thanks again for writing and sharing this.

Yep, you're getting review spam again. :)

How on earth did I miss this? Well, at least I've found it now!

You know, I've often wondered about the thoughts of the more temperate Sons of Fëanor after the boiling blood of anger cooled and they began to reap the consequences of their oath and following actions. This is beautifully done, thank you for sharing it.

Also, I think you meant Maïtimo in that second to last bit of dialog.

Reread this again today and almost wept at its terrible beautiful sadness.
This deserves a million recs, but I'll start you off with just one :)

I thank you for the praise and the recommendation. I shall try and get back to work on the sequel. It has some scenes that might interest you. I don;t think I uploaded it here, but the first chapter is up on FFN. (Horror...) Same name as I use here.

So lovely. Really enjoy Beren's perspective.

Thank you so much for writing and sharing this!
Comments from author:
Yes, poor Beren, so many died to make his love possible. The sequel, unfinished, but fully plotted, may be found on Fanfiction.net

Oh good lord, that was lovely. Whew! Breathtaking. I loved Galadriel's view on things.

I am most curious where you found all their nicknames. Not all the bios on the various wiki or encyclopedia pages list all those extra things - and if so, they do not properly label if it is an amilessë or not.

And you're braver than I -- I'm too afraid to use the uncommon names of the various people/places of Arda. There are a few names I still use the common Sindarin form rather than Quenyan. To go by family nicknames alone? Tricky! :)
Comments from author:
I imagined a huge fondness from Finrod for Galadriel merely because of the nickname he gave her, Nerwen. I fear I got my information mostly the old fashioned way, from my books. (Silmarilion, historu of middle earth, unfinished tales.) I also admit to having forgotten more elvish than I remember. (Then again I was once, wince, considered a prime expert on it... Sixteen year olds and their obsessions...) I primarily use Tolkien gateway, the tolkien wiki ( I picked that page beacuse Legolas looks just as if he's about to a) flick his hair, or b) ask if this earring looks good. The third and fourth are a mix of good and bad. I also just use wikipedia, which quite often lists the names, amilessë and epessë.

Wow, I never really thought of how Thingol might take the news of Finrod's death. Yes, it was at his hands in a way, wasn't it? How disturbing for him.

I rather like the bit of life you fleshed out for Thingol, Melian, and Finrod in just these few paragraphs. Very well done.
Comments from author:
I thought about how his death would have affected many people and picked the ones I thought most poignant. I conisdered writing Gildor, but thought it might be to painful.

Glad you liked it and thanks for reviewing

At first I wasn't sure about reading this, because I didn't want my idea of Valinor type people to mesh with yours - I usually avoid fics in my fandoms that I'm currently writing about. But hey, very nice so far! I enjoyed the brothers' exchange.
Comments from author:
Thank you. This isn't a crossover, so strictly speaking shouldn't even be her, but hey...
