Review of chapter "Chapter 11" from Grovtech
Review:
When an organization turns bad most often it is those who try to hold to higher standards that pays the price. I thought you did a good job with Frank's different upbringing versus more modern ideas. Sadly too many still believe in an eye for an eye and a tooth for tooth.

On the other hand, the leaders of the Council got what they deserved. I also liked how you added the Wand users to the history which also explains why the Focus users are so separate from society.

Bloody and grim though it was, this was a good story.

Grover
Comments from author:
Yes, the others are most often far too good at covering their backsides... I wanted to show that especially for the older immortals ethics, morality and law are a choice...

In this story they certainly did. Though I must admit I can't think of any reason why the Cruciamentum as shown had any use at all.

I felt that if I used the Wand Wizarding world it needed to bedded down firmly in history with the rest of it.

Yeah. Quite bloody, now I think about it.

Thanks and thanks for reviewing

Review:
"bus schedule marked San Francisco via Santa Monica, Sunnydale, Oxnard and a dozen other names Kendra did not know"

That would put Sunnydale on what is actually a swamp that's been filled in enough to build a Navel Air Station on it. Point Mugu NAS actually. Not a good place to build a town. On the other hand, Washington DC was built on a swamp and gee, look how well everyone there is doing. Now it's a figurative swamp, not a literal one.

There's actually no place else to build a town between Santa Monica and Oxnard. The coastal hills drop almost straight down into the pacific ocean with highway 1 built on a strip that was either just barely wide enough or filled with rock and base material to all the connecting highway. There are a few tiny towns that go up into the narrow canyons away from the ocean. Look up Santa Monica on Google and follow it up to Oxnard. About 65 miles if that. Been a LONG time since I drove it. I remember the wonderful air shows at the navy base which they called the "Space Fair". Weeee. Got to see planes fire zuni rockets, vulcan cannon, and even a sidewinder. Hehehe... When the plane fires the vulcan it sounds like the airplane is making a giant fart. One year we watched the Blue Angels in F4's (way more impressive to watch than an F-18) fly their giant loop in formation and the tail end guy got a bit low and just scraped the ground. Kept flying, went out over the ocean and they took a look at it from the other planes. Then they came back and finished the show and after all the rest landed and got off the runway, they foamed down the runway and he did a belly landing right in front of the grandstands (about 1/4 mile away). The pilot got out to a standing ovation and calmly waved, walked to the wingtip and jumped down and walked over to their assembly area. Very cool pilot.

I place Sunydale in the location of Santa Barbara, since that is apparently where Whedon&co put it.

Review:
They are going to be seriously dead when Duncan finds them. Not to mention Dalman and Gladys and Frank. A little fire isn't going to permanently kill them. But they are sure going to be angry.
Comments from author:
The problem is that Gladys could have survived the fire, but the collapse of the house separated her head from her neck, wich was weakened due to the fire...

And ho, yes. They'll be very angry.

Review:
Abuse? Not at all. The Watcher's Council is merely reaping what they have sown. That's what happens when a person or organization surrenders the high ground and allows the end to justify the means, it all comes back to them, often exponentially. Unfortunately, innocents are always the ones to pay the most for such errors. *refrains from rant about governments and politicians who deem the end justifies whatever means they may decide are necessary*
Comments from author:
It is indeed a slippery slope. Giles lost a lot of my sympathy in Helpless. No matter how angry he might have been about Jenny, he should have told the Council to stuff it.

Review:
that was tough but it cleared out a lot of rot from the organization. now that Frank knows faith is alive will he watch or approach her? very well done, thanks for sharing it.
Comments from author:
Frank isn't quite sane and doesn't actually believe she lives. He just thinks that he was lied to by someone who wanted to save his skin...

If so, will we ever see their meeting ?

Yes, he is. And I might just write that one day...

Wow, you made Travers a good guy. I am shocked, on the other hand you made the whole Council of Watchers WORSE than canon. I was not sure that was possible.

What a great story, dark, but great. Thanks!
Comments from author:
Travers and the Council deservedly get a lot of bad press. But I wanted to show what could have happened. The reason why he is a better man is in Portrait of the Artist, and chapters 74-75.

So, what exactly was done to Collins and weathrby? I didn't get the character reference.

Hope to read more soon.

Comments from author:
There's an (in)famous scene in Pulp fiction when the characters of Bruce Willis and Ving Rhames are captured and taken to a bondage dungeon where the latter is raped. Unlike them, Collins and Weatherby do not escape... I think.

Glad you enjoyed it, thanks for reviewing.
