Wonderful story. The first part of the quote you had Gideon tell Willow was extremely... It touched me, more than I was expecting from a fanfic. Thank you.

This was simply beautiful. I think this may be the most perfect dealing with Willow's pain and feelings on Tara I've ever read. It's not just the words, which were exactly what was needed, and were the exact mirror - it was the feelings, the intent behind them, the understanding. Jason was an excellent choice for the one who did so.
And of course, I loved his last point about Yom Kippur. Many people do not understand when I tell them it is one of my favorite holidays. But beyond the realism of it, there's a feeling of bliss, of perfection. As Scripture said "For on this day atonement will be made for you, to cleanse you; before the Lord, you will be purified from all your sins". And as the verse says, it goes beyond atonement and forgiveness - it's purification. Cleansing of all pain, all sin, all corruption, from one and all. Most of all, forgiveness and purity even from yourself.

Meneldur,

Thank you very much for your comment. I am not a Jew, but I've worked in a Jewish community and found a great deal to respect and value in their beliefs. Yom Kippur, I believe, fills a very human need to absolve and be absolved, to find forgiveness for both the large sins and the small, and to understand that in forgiving others, you heal yourself. I wanted to present to Willow a possibility of atonement ("at-one-ment with G-d", a friend said) that she hadn't been familiar with and would bring her peace.

And Gideon. He is a broken man. I think it would be impossible to be anything but broken after what he's been through. Yet, he is more whole than nearly any other character or person I've encountered. Being forgiven by him would mean something. After all, he's sacrificed himself to save both the innocents from being harmed and the corrupted from being destroyed by their own actions.

Rarely have I read a fic where the pain is sooo clear and obvious, that it brought tears to my eyes. Great story.

Review:
That was... really, really good.

I love all of the main characters from Criminal Minds (except Rossi, but I can tolerate even him most of the time, and he has had awesome moments), but Gideon was always one of my favorites. Hotch was the obvious leader, calm, collected, driven and a driving force. Morgan was the tough guy who became a leader in his own right. Ried, the genius. Garcia, the techie. But Gideon always seemed to sort of transcend all of that, the quintessential wise man. Even at times when he seemed very involved or desperate (the alien abduction killer case, for one), he still had an air about him that sort of put him above the mundane. I always felt that Criminal Minds lost a very important component in writing his character out.

But yeah, he would be one of the perfect characters that I can think of (from most any series, really) to comfort Willow in a situation such as the one you've written.

This was amazing! I really loved the whole conversation between Willow and Gideon. It felt like they shared a profound moment - a connection of sorts - And I think you did a wonderful job displaying Willow's grief and Gideon's understanding and long-lived wisdom. *sigh* It was just beautiful!

Thanks for writing this, and if you ever decide to write another Willow/Gideon meet up, I will definitely read it!! :-)
