Review of chapter "Chapter One" from Cateagle
Review:
::chuckle:; Yes, that did make an intense difference (I wonder if Ethan will appreciate just how powerful a change he's made?). Xander, if his collection of comics and such goes back far enough, would definitely recognize Solomon Kane from Marvel's treatment of him. *This* could get rather interesting.
Comments from author:
Ethan has always been more about causing Chaos than really considering its after-effects, and I agree that Xander would very likely recognize the name of 'Solomon Kane.'

Given the changes that have been made to this 'verse already, Ethan has a very large amount of bad karma to atone for, and I think that Giles is going to be looking to ensure that he pays for his actions.

This is an interesting snippet. I have to wonder where you would go with this if you expanded it further. I think it could make for an interesting AU, actually. I was actually surprised with this snippet since Angel seems to experience bad ends more often than not in your fanfiction.
Comments from author:
First off , thanks for reviewing. It's always nice to learn what the readers think of my stories.

As far as Angel is concerned, yes, he often ends up with the dirty end of the stick in my stories - primarily because I think he was nothing more than a minor accessory added by Joss to inflame the fangirls' interest in a romance that made Romeo and Juliet look like levelheaded negotiations conducted by career ambassadors.

He did nothing for nearly the entirety of the first season than show up and make vague and meaningless pronouncements to a sixteen year old girl involuntarily embroiled in an endless struggle against the darkness before them disappearing again, while doing nothing of any importance to help her.

He had to be forced to assist the girl whom he had declared was his reason for salvation by a normal human teenager at cross-point.

He was nothing but a coward and an endless point of dissension between Buffy and Xander, and later, after Angelus' appearance and Angel's even later return, between Buffy and Giles.

In short, he was, at best, useless, and should have been either forced to help provide assistance or to leave town - or better yet, staked and his dust flushed down a toilet.

I have nothing but contempt for him during his time in Sunnydale, and mostly indifference for him once he moved to L.A.

Cool idea. Angel as Solomon Kane just works. Now I've got to go back and look up previous entries to find out what the earlier reviewer was talking about with Cordy and Willow dying...

... wait: you killed Cordy?!? How could you?!? Auuugghhh!!!

It's just barely possible that Xander might recognise Kane. Depends a lot on how far you'd want to take Xander's geekdom: i could easily see him having zero interest in reading for school, but reading fantasy and sci-fi for entertainment wouldn't be out of character.

Giles might at least recognise the name as well, even if he hasn't read the novels.
Comments from author:
Since Kane was basically the antithesis of Angel (human demon hunter motivated by his personal convictions and driven by any sort of guilt for previous deeds), I considered him a perfect "come as you aren't" costume for Angel.

And as far as Cordy dying is concerned, her being chased by the wookie/Bigfoot/whatever after the spell began was NOT going to end well for her if someone didn't intervene and save her. Since Xander was busy saving the planet, he wasn't around to do that this time through, so she bit the big one and moved on to the next great adventure. One minor consolation is that with her dying now, Jasmine's is at least temporarily derailed until she comes up with another poor unfortunate to posses.

Review:
while cool and nearly orrigional, isn't solomon kain sort of come as you are? Corpse who's damned soul fights the terrors of the night for redemption versus a man who lost his soul to the devil and fights the terrors of the night for his own chance at redemption... sounds like the only thing that changed was he's now alive. and not quite as super powered.
Comments from author:
Angel chose Kane as the mirror image of what he was - a human who chose to hunt demons out of his own deeply felt convictions.

Howard's original Kane is quite different than the one portrayed in the movie, if that is who you are referencing. You can learn more about him here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solomon_Kane.

Review:
Solemn Indeed. Apart from the walking in sunlight the only change to Angel's attitude will be that he now favours hats rather than hair gel :) A worthy followup to your earlier story. I hope Angel meets up with Willow before Xander does, it would be a bit much to ask him to kill both of his best friends :(
Comments from author:
Yeah, the Broodmaster is dead - for real, this time. ;-)

And Willow wasn't Turned, since the vamp who found her dead body merely drained her. she would have had to be alive and drunk some of his blood to be Turned.

Review:
He seems especially interested in Xander's reaction, he's not coming out of the closet is he. You can never tell with these Vampires ya know? Plus there was that thing that Peaches and Spoike had once upon a time. D:

Is Angel going to be twice as broody or half as broody?

-James
Comments from author:
Nah, Angel is just looking forward to being able to see Xander's reaction when he realizes he can't call Angel 'Deadboy,' any more.

And even if he was as dour as Kane, he'll still be human, so that will make him a lot less broody.

Here's hoping this means your Muse is returning to this universe, and we'll find out the consequences of Willow and Cordy dying. I expect the Mayor is not going to last long. I also expect Rayne's pain is going to be legendary.
Comments from author:
There will be more of this universe in the future, and Ethan is going to curse the day he was born almost as much as the day he decided to screw with people's costumes. ;-)

The prayer while in human form is probably one of the things that sealed the deal. I don't know the character you mention well, but believe I have heard of this pulp(?) character.
Comments from author:
Yep, Kane was very devout, which made him such a perfectly ironic selection for Angel's costume. ;-)

Solomon Kane is one awesome character, guess Angel really knows the classics.
Ya gotta continue this particular fic dude =D!.
Cool chapter, see ya!!.
Comments from author:
Yes, Kane was awesome, and Angel probably spent a good part of the time he wasn't brooding in reading, so I can easily see him knowing about Solomon Kane and Howard's other heroes.

The Scooby Gang? Recognize Soloman Kane? Probably not. Joyce - maybe, but she was never really a part of the Scooby gang, and, possibly, Willow, though I don't think that Robert Howard was her typical reading material, you know?
Comments from author:
Well, you have to remember that Angel, as a member of the gentry, would be accustomed to reading for enjoyment than the Scoobies are, since all of the reading they do now is either for school or for research on the next Big Bad.

I rather doubt that even Willow would recognize the name, unless he'd come across it when checking out Howard's stories on the off-chance he was writing something that had been based on actual events.

Well, I don't know if they would, but I know I don't, so thanks for mentioning it. I shall have to look him up. This does look like it could go interesting places, though.

He's definitely one of Howard's best characters, and you can find more information about him here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solomon_Kane.
