Thanks for keeping Jean Claude reasonable, at least so far. I think he would be displeased about Richard breaking free and the resulting loss of power, but considering his own backstory and his political savvy, his would at least be able to understand the situation from Richard's point of view. I suspect he'd still try to turn it in his favor, but he would not see it as a personal insult the way Anita would.

Lol, loved this chapter! I especially loved how Dawn managed Jean Claude. "And surely one of your age should know better than to assume a woman can be ordered to do anything." - Adored that line, it's just so perfectly Dawn: strong, but not macho, just independent and not impressed with the whole 'vampire' thing. She's treating him like just another person.
Also, I wouldn't worry about the chapter being dialogue-heavy. It flowed well and that's the main thing. Dialogue is also a form of showing; telling would be if you took out the dialogue and summerized it in your own words without letting the characters speak for themselves.

I'm not well-versed in the entire Anitaverse, but I know enough to be open to the Buffy/Anita Blake crossovers - which is fortunate, because I wouldn't want to miss this one.
Well written, well thought out, well developed plot - I am enjoying this story very much. I am intrigued by the direction you've taken Richard's character, as well as by the new the grown-up Dawn. Very eager to see how things will change in St. Louis now. Good luck with future installments!
WOOHOOO!! New story!! Glad you finally gave us the new one. So I take it Anita was on the porch? So gotta see what that one will do when Dawn DOES come out to play.. Richard has a real woman NOW. Anita doesn't NEED to feel conflicted over which guy she wants to be with, cause Richard is TAKEN! So she can take her lil Necromantic @ss back to the Master Vamp. See ya! Wouldn't want to be ya! LOL I just love your series.

Yay, they're back in St. Louis! Well, Richard's back in any case. Can't wait to see how Dawn meshes with the St. Louis crowd - I mean, for one, she's not about to be intimidated or wowed by any vampire with her history, so that should make things interesting. And I somehow can't see her and Anita hitting it off either. Anyway, am definitely looking forward to seeing what happens next.
“Indeed I did,” Richard pointed at one tree as he bounded over to the throne. With a great smile, he eased himself into the seat and let out a sigh of contentment. “That one.” It was the biggest pine in the clearing and Dawn made a note not to touch it. ---- And he sounds so proud! God, I loved this line. It is such a guy/wolf thing to do, and I love how Dawn's only reply is to make a note. The two of them together is ADORABLE!!!! So glad you've continued this.
Part of me wants Dawn to send Anita to go meet the Twilight crew. Bwahahaha!
