Review of chapter "Angel's Lie" from
ShieldageCompression-only CPR can be performed without mouth-to-mouth contact, excellent for, say, Rogue.
However, something important to note: Both Rogue and Angel have super-strength. It's hard enough not to crack ribs in a regular situation so they could easily dust someone's insides unless they had training above and beyond that of normal humans.
In the past four years they've invented a new method:
http://www.reuters.com/article/2007/09/21/us-cpr-effective-idUSKUA17353820070921 Rhythmic abdominal compression, which avoids both the above issues, however it's much newer than Buffy Season 1... So, I go with the theory that if Angel hadn't avoided CPR his unchecked strength could've made her even deader :D
... Also: "I can't touch her, because I'm afraid I'll break her." Is *not* something that you want to tell Xander if you're counting on him to do it without added panic ;)
He could have assisted Xander somehow. I think the writers were just goofy when they wrote that scene. That or they weren't thinking clearly.
