Review of chapter "Chapter Eighteen." from Alkeni
Review:
Octavian was amazingly bookish. His history wouldn't be....

okay, sorry, I know you're not being historical. Still, Octavian wasn't anywhere near as bad as Commodus in their respective TV shows/movies

You're really going to have Octavian stand in as him?
Comments from author:
I rather liked the Octavian character from 'ROME' so I stuck with him and keep him more or less in character.

It could have been worse Iit might have used the Brian Blessed version from 'I Cladius'!

Cheers,
D.

Review:
Must have missed seeing the last chapters when they were posted - nice ending, although a little harsh on Harmony maybe. Could they give Buffy the ring?
Comments from author:
Oh. I'm afraid that was one of my little tangents that I fly off at! I expect she'll be alright in the long run.

Give Buffy the Ring? Hmm, be forced to obey her own orders? Now there's an idea I'd not thought of. Mind you, it might make her brain explode in a sort of feed back loop if she ever tried to disobey herself!

AAGH! You're making my brain hurt thinking about this!

Cheers,
D.

Review:
I've read about two dozen of your stories and this is the best one yet. I see other people didn't care too much for the ending, but to me it just makes more possibilities to the upcoming stories in this series. Hmm could be that Pompeii is a nest of evil, or vampires or something and the reason a volcano buried it is because Buffy, Faith, or Willow made it happen.
That's what I like about your stories, they get my imagination going. Writing has to be hard, the possibilities are endless and choosing only one way has to be a pain in the ass.
Thanks for another very entertaining story, the best yet.
Comments from author:
Thank-you.

This story was actually written as the first part of a long three part story, which I decided to post as three separate stories (well actually it was four stories but two got joined into one!).

By problem with writing has always been which plotline to follow and not to fly off at a tangent. When I'm writing a 'true' xover (where I'm following the plot of a film or TV show closely) I find it easier not to shoot off at weird angles. In stories where I'm not following a laid down plotline I find myself wondering off topic.

I liked this story and was very proud of it, glad you liked it too.

D.

PS: The next part of the story is Dawn in Judea before fining her way to Italy. The last part is where Fidelia, Aurora and Trix all come together in Pompeii and save the day! These parts will be out in the New Year.

I was really hoping to see Buffy regain her freedom! I do wish that the author does come out with the fourth installment in the story, even though it has been awhile!!!

Review:
Loved this story, I was wrapped up in it from beginning to end and I cant wait for the next installment and I really hope that Xander shows up, I mean he is the only one who never had powers and I bet he would flourish in Rome!
Comments from author:
Book Four Part Two. Xander King of...?

Yes we get all sorts of people turn up.

I know why Buffy is here. And the reason for Faith being in there has already been written(Book One). Willow was there to make history and Shakespeare turn out right(Book Two).

The others?

Well, and I've just thought of this, what if this Ancient Rome is like an eddy in a river that collects lost souls and dumps them to put something right so history goes on as it should.

Hey I might have to develope this idea!

Cheers,
D.

Faith will have to remember Pompeii and the ash cloud.
She may not be around, her she will has children and grand children to keep safe.
They haven't ashed the really big question. Who is collecting them and why, from different realities?

I think you could have spent a little more time between Willow, Faith and Buffy.
Perhaps that will happen in your next book.

A very enjoyable read.
Comments from author:
Oh yes Faith knows about Pompeii going BOOM!

Again, I agree there could have been more W/B/F interaction at the end there. I will endeavor to do better next time. Not one of my best ending...sorry.

Cheers,
D.

Review:
Huh. Not sure how I feel about this ending.

Crassus didn't suffer anywhere NEAR enough for his stupidity and arrogance. But then again, I don't really know how else it could have realistically gone, all things considered. Maybe get the ring off of him and then let Buffitrix put on one of her "shows"?

It seems to me that slapping that irremovable collar on Buffy will basically kill off what makes her Buffy (since she now "enjoys" being told what to do by whomever wears the ring, if I understood correctly. Or was that again Crassus being arrogant and not understanding all the nuances involved?) If it doesn't remove all of her independence, I can easily see it making her completely insane since she would be always in conflict with the power of the spell. The only solution that I can think of is to give her the ring to wear herself, thus placing her back into complete control of herself. But would that have any unforeseen effects? I don't know.

Harmony showing up was kind of fun, but I don't really understand why she did. Perhaps more on that will be revealed in later stories? Willow's thoughts on what she might do to her if Cordelia were to show up seemed a touch off (since they did end up more or less working together for a while before Willow got displaced, and Willow just isn't normally quite so blood-thirsty, is she?) but I can still understand it being a fleeting thought if she were to come up against a different Cordelia that was unrepentant and still overtly hostile in attitude. I might have similar thoughts if placed in a like situation with certain of my school nemeses.

Anyway, I've enjoyed your writing as always, and look forward to more whenever you can arrange it. Thanks!
Comments from author:
Crassus was arrogant and believed he was untouchable. Perhaps he didn't think through the plan.

Giving Buffy the ring wasn't something I thought of! Whoever, quickly thinking about it now I could see it as working one of two ways. Either you could have Buffy being Buffy OR her mind would go into a loop and she'd explode!

I chose neither of these options as you will see in Book Five (I hope).

Honesty time. I started writing this story as a simple hack and slash story and it turned into something else. I don't know whether I'm 100% pleased with it...I think I need a story consultant or something!

Cheers,
D.

And Crassus got wasted because he ignored the rule about gloating; silly Roman, that's what he gets for not reading the Evil Overlord list =P.
And yeah, the ending was cool, congratulations =D!!.
See ya!!.

No internet in those days...

The ending? Not one of my best I feel, but its not really the end.

Can't wait for the next one.
You are mean, anyone can take that ring and do what they want with Buffy.
Oh, ahh can I have it? pretty please

One Ring to Rule them all
One Ring to Find them
One Ring to bring them all an in the darkness and bind them.

I know I'm so not funny but I had to get it out of my system.

Comments from author:
Made me smile.

Actually they don't really need the ring, but that'll have to wait for Book Five.

As Big Bad Crassus has one thing down pat, being cock sure of himself.
You write this character so well, I would love to wring his neck.

Doesn't say your other characters are not well,
their all good.
Buffy's reaction to being put under control was what made this scene really work.

Why, Why can't the boys keep their harem? let them.

Comments from author:
Keeping the girls, well you know what parents are like!

Glad you 'disliked' Crassus!

Great story. Can't wait to see the next stories in the series.

Cordy in ancient Rome. Given what she did in Pylea, Cordy would find a way to work herself into a position of prominence in the Imperial family-or perhaps Queen of a neighboring state.
Comments from author:
Cordy in a position of power in ancient Rome, my blood runs cold at the mere thought.

Cordy appears in Romans Go Home! to be posted in the new year...actually, now I think of it she does get some power.

Review:
Crassus gets what he deserves for talking too much, Buffy gets her friend back and Pullo manages to resist ultimate power by thinking of what his wife would say :) Pity that Buffy is going to remain under a magical compulsion for the rest of her life. Who has the ring now? I'm not sure if it would be safer for Willow to keep it in Rome or to send it down to Pompei with Eos perhaps looking after it. The Buffy who met Faith in Sunnydale wouldn't want Faith to have it I'm sure but this Buffy is pretty much used to being told what to do so she might not mind, even if the magical compulsion ever wears off. I can't wait to see what you have planned for Pompei. Maybe the Mayor will be evil :)
Comments from author:
Faith the responsible mother of five and thirty something Lady will hold on to it...for now!

Who knows Willow might find away of cutting off Buffy's head and reattaching it.

Pompeii? Well yu'll have to wait for Book Five!

Cheers,
D.

Darn Witches - always casting spells to make Buffy do stuff, or stopping Buffy from doing stuff :( Hopefully Willow will get there in the morning before Buffy leaves and save her from the evil senator. You can't keep disappointing me can you?
So funny with the boys and their slave girls. I'm not surprised that Faith let him keep one. And now she knows how a mother feels when her daughter is ,ahh, free with her affections :) The sandal is on the other foot now! You know who might be a good example for her daughter? Buffytrix perhaps? We shall see.
Comments from author:
Buffy/Faith as mother-daughter. I did consider it when I was writing book five but rejected it, sorry.

Crassius died too quickly. For all that the slime has done, a simple death should not be enough.
Comments from author:
You blood thirsty so-n-so's!

So far you're the second person who's said that.

I think Pullo did it right, messing around might have let Crassus (may he rot in Hades) get away.
