Review of chapter "Timeline" from fpb
Review:
Fossy sighed, "And the PKM?"

"Sir, I was given that as a symbol of international and interfaith peace and understanding," I had to give Boyer credit. He actually said that with a straight face.

Summers spoke up, "That's actually true John. I was there and so was Tom. I have no clue how he got it out of Takjikistan and into the US or out of the US and into Iraq though."

Fossey looked at Boyer and he put his hands in the air, "Sorry sir, trade secret."

"Of course it is. Boyer you spent most of your life in the Army as a machinegunner right?" Fossey sounded resigned.

That, even more than all the technicalities, shows you're an old soldier. They say that the definition of an old soldier is someone who could liberate a tank without an officer noticing a thing. I only did one year as a conscript, and that was thirty years ago, so there's an ever-so-slight difference. The most pleasant part of this is to read a story where the military are not treated either as psychotic idiots (Joss Whedon) or as supermen. You write a story about people with a professional skill doing their best to use it for good purpose. I particularly like that nice Liet.Fossey, considering how many cookie-cutter idiot glory-hound lieutenants I have met in fiction. It stands to reason that a man of ordinary commonsense on his first professional outings would, one, not think too much of himself, and, two, rely heavily on the advice of his more experienced subordinates.

Fossey is one of my favorite OCs and you'll see him in later stories.

Review of chapter "Meetings" from DieselDriver
Review:
Slight little problem here. You have her being told she would fly out of Edwards AFB in 2 hours which would have been fine if she were anywhere in Southern CA north of Los Angeles, then later in the chapter, you have her riding a C-141 from Pope to Bagdad. That's fine except that a C-141 would need at least one refueling stop or inflight refueling to do that flight (to the best of my knowledge anyway). I flew in a C-141 about as lightly loaded as this one is described to be and we flew from Travis to Hickam to Guam to Clark in the Philipines. A bit longer but also 2 fuel stops.

Reply to your comment: I got it from this passage:

"So I won't be answering to you on this one? That's a plus," I put a vaguely hopeful tone in my voice hoping," he sounded calm as to spur a reaction. Unfortunately my boss knows my smart-ass ways only too well.

"You will be flying out of Edwards Air Force Base in two hours. You'll be meeting the rest of your team in Baghdad. You do a good job and I will be making some more friends in the industry from this," he sounded calm as usual.

Also, as you can see on this page of the specs, it's range is officially listed as 2950 nautical miles, ferrying (empty) 6100 miles. So with a very light load, it's still going to require a stop. U.S. Military flights typically stop in Germany for refuel and crew rest. Iraq Airlines does it in a straight shot with a long range 747 in 19.5 hours. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/C-141_Starlifter#Specifications_.28C-141B_Starlifter.29

Where did you get Edwards from? She was in North Carolina and flew out of Pope.

I have to wonder if this Lt John Fossey is any relation to the Joe Fossey who was awarded a Medal of Honor in WW2 and later spent some time as the president of the NRA?
Comments from author:
That's where I got his last name actually. No relation though.

We have a minor difference of opinion here:

"I'm also sure if things get really bad, both Captain Summers and myself can get a scary amount of even more scary help very fast."

I don't think any of them are any scarier than Buffy when she's in full battle mode.

Joe does not know this yet.

Glad that the deamon god isn't interested in multitasking his hearing and attention. Meanwhile, I really like the little hint on what spirit may be behind the slayer's power.

Buffy sure gets to tell the story of "the world" quite a bit in these stories. I'm always enjoying your timing of *when* she tells.
