Review:
I loved reading this story. Partly because you didn't shove it under the rug (big kudos for completing it). This story delivers what I've craved from most of the other crossovers with Buffy ending up in Middle-Earth, namely a companion that grounds her and shows off their mutual strength, or power, as Halbarad mused over.

I'm intrigued that Giles has a chance to feature more here, since it is easy to forget that a Slayer and her Watcher are (or should be) a close, accomplished unit of destruction (well they are, aren't they?).

And wow, I'm very curious to find out more of this inherent light both Giles and Halbarad noticed in Buffy.

I see you are presently knee-deep in another huge, epic length fic so probably won't work on the follow-up story for this anytime soon. That said, I'd love to read the rest whenever your schedule and muse permits. May you have a wonderful new year, and enjoy the rest of your week.

Review:
Entertaining story. It came recommended by another author here, Speakertocustomers.

My only issue is Halbarad's name. Throughout the nine chapters, he was at times Halbarad, Halabad, Halbard, Halabarad, Halabard, and Halbad (by Buffy)...

Otherwise thoroughly enjoyable. I'd love to see a continuation or a sequel.
Comments from author:
The Halbad is deliberate, given Buffy's propensity to mangle names. The others aren't, so I've obviously got a touch of the same problem! I will do another proofing - and try and be a little better at catching the errors in the next bit.

(And yes, there will be a next bit. I'm just trying to get my PhD thesis out of the way first ...)

Of course it *would* end there.

Very good story. Your characterization and writing are both great. Haven't seen a plot yet, but then this is just the beginning. I hope. Please follow through with a sequel.

Thanks for writing!

I love this story, I just reread it again, and if anything I love it even more. I have always been a big fan of a strong and confident Giles. Your Buffy is one of the best I have every read. You have a balance in her character that works very well. I hope that there will be something new soon. When I finished the last chapter I found that I missed them, and did not want it to come to the end.

Review:
The most promising Buffy/Lord of the Rings cross I've come across in a long while. You seem to have quite a good grasp of both verses and their characters. I enjoy the way in which you've sketched both character and scene - with attention to detail and atmosphere, but not with pretentious excess. "She’d descended the stairs like a shaft of sunlight piercing the gloom in the old forest, all gold and green, bright and breath taking", in particular, is one of my favorite lines for its imagery and poetic parallel structure. I was surprised but very pleased by how much Buffy there was in reading my first Giles-centric story, and hope that if you continue Buffy will remain as central a character to the story as she is currently. It's refreshing to see that you're dealing with lesser-written LotR characters and have constructed the beginnings of an original plot.

Overall, a tantalizing, well-written and well-paced tease of a prologue, and I hope to see more soon.
Comments from author:
There isn't a 'focusing on Giles but lots of Buffy as well' category ... but yes, she's very much an integral part of this tale. :-)

I'm glad you enjoyed this - I'm working on more, aiming for an 'untold tale' of the War of the Ring rather than a retelling of the central story, although the two will collide at various points. I've been busy sorting out my research so that I get the timing and the dates right - I want a little time spent in Rivendell so that our heroes have some idea of what's going on, but still have to get the Grey Company to Rohan in time to join Aragorn before he walks the Paths of the Dead. And I have to sort out the Company, too - the principle players, at least. It'll probably be done as a series of short tales, rather than one long one - although that may mean there's one section that simply says 'They rode hard, they rode long, and the world turned under them in a rhythm of endless thunder ...'

But we will see!

i just found this story and read it in one go.
I'm always on for a daughter /father relationship with these two.
I'm glad that Giles will have a more central role for once . i just hope that Buffy stay strong neverless. LotR is still medieval in its views.

Hey,

I just re-read your story, and it's still great - in fact, since I keep noticing more details every time, I like it even better than before! There's only one thing I would like even better ... wanna guess? A hint: Starts with 'se' and ends with 'quel' ... ;-)

How about it?

Wonderful prologue. NOW GIMME THE NOVEL.
Joking, joking.... kind of. Seriously though, please release more soon =[
Comments from author:
That's actually my problem - it was a little plot bunny of an idea that turned into the prologue for a potential novel ... which means I have to construct plot and characters (there were 30 Rangers that arrived in Rohan in LOTR) and plan out relationships and how things develop/work out - and all that good stuff that writing entails ...

When I have a Phd thesis to finish and day job to do. Not to mention all the other writing stuff that's currently on my list. Sigh.

But I will get back to this, I promise. It's too good to leave here like this!

Can't wait for the next part of this series.

I'd love to see which other characters Buffy and Giles will encounter and how they'll react to the dynamic duo. Should also be interesting to see how they adjust to the customs and cultures of Middle-Earth.
