I'm sorry for your loss. Up until about a year and a half ago, I was not a dog person at all. I was firmly a cat person. I would have been able to sympathize because I've had to deal with losing cats over the last 25 years (we've had cats since before I was born) but it wasn't until October '10 that I would have had any understanding of what having a dog feels like. Molly was an incredible dog, she really brightened up my life, and I didn't realize what she meant to me until she was gone. She was hit by a car this past August and died. I didn't expect it to hurt as much as it does.

After I posted this, I couldn't really go back to it to respond to reviews because the pain was still fresh. But now I feel healed so I wanted to return to your message.

Thank you for sharing your own story of loss. I'm so sorry for your ordeal. It's peculiar how much a pet can mean to a person - I had no idea that it would affect me so much. I hope things are better and you're doing well.

Let me just say upfront that you have another shoulder to lean on...I lost my first dog when I was 9 due to a cancerous tumour in his throat that couldn't be treated, so he had to be put down to prevent him from starving to death. Still hurts to think about Taffy and what his death meant for my family :S

Still, you've done a fantastic job looking at both how the news of Willow dying would hit Buffy and the reasons for Willow dying after going through so much! The pain was palpable and I definitely could imagine this scene as being something Joss & co. could have come up with had they chosen to.

I am sorry to here about your dog. just focus on the laughter and love that your dog gave you, and in time the pain will lessen. Don't listen to people who say to get another one, they don't know how deeply it effects people when their furry friends die. remember the love, laughter and snuggles and that is what will get you through the grief.

Hi,

I am so sorry for you dog, first, i have a puppy and i completely understand how awful you must feel at losing her so quickly. I hope you can find peace that at least there was no pain and just remember the good times. I had to take my puppy to the vet today and was worried she was sick so your story really touched me.

I can certainly relate. As for the story itself i think you are a wonderful writer, you wrote grief in such a real and touching way. I was holding back tears, i could feel Buffy's pain, her confusion and inane thoughts, the inability to voice the words - Willow's dead. It is also a very possible storyline, Willow dying because of the magic she did in S6 and S7.

The idea of the story interests me so i hope you think of returning to it one day but if not then it stands as a very emotive and saddening drabble.

I hope you have a happy new year,
Rain.
