Review of chapter "TWENTY-FIVE: On Going Home, Or At Least Back..." from lunalurker
Review:
Well done. You made me tear up several times, something not so easy to do when lesser-liked characters are involved, but you went and made me feel for them all anyway. Very well done.
I'd also love to see what happened to Anita someday, especially if her return home isn't nearly as awful as she thinks it will be.
Thanks for writing.
Comments from author:
I'm glad to hear that you enjoyed the story, and that it hit you right in the feels -- that was the point of those particular scenes. I will say that I had some trouble writing Scott's demise -- I approached it from several angles, trying to figure out how to kill the Big Bad in a big enough way without it seeming like I'm just writing KABOOM!!!!!!!!!!! and moving on.

And if you think THIS story made you tear up, wait until you get to the next one in the series...

I too would like to go back and see Anita again, and the nice thing is that I've set it up so she can pop back in at any time. Actually, one thing I'd like to do is send some of my characters into her world, but I have to pick a good point and make sure I don't have to infodump 63,235,205,395 characters -- because as we all know, Laurell Hamilton refuses to kill ANYONE and adds more characters every book. Seriously, I'm not going to Dragon*Con, but I hope that someone is and someone will tell her it's time to do some culling.

I digress. Thanks for reading, and thanks for reviewing.

Review:
Wow, no qualms about killing off good guys...which is canon, despite people getting bitchy about it. Though not central to the story, I thought the Faith/Robin dynamic was well done, although the triple whammy of breakup and death and confession was a little trite/trope-ish for me.

Having not read the comic, I am very skeptical about Punky's hammer being "just a hammer" ;) Looking forward to seeing more of our multihued heroine.

Your version of Buffy +6 years was engaging, even moreso because of her also-matured-along-the-way Watcher. And Cinnabun (note: haven't read the comic, don't know if it was all canon). Well done overall.
Comments from author:
Thanks. I'm glad you enjoyed the story.

I've read the Scott Pilgrim comics a few times, and don't recall anything "special" about the hammer other than the fact that it fits in Ramona's bag and she is strong enough to wield it.

Satsu is relatively canon -- she's in Buffy Season 8, which counts. In that, she and Buffy sleep together a couple of times, and Satsu is in love with her, but they don't form a relationship. Since my stories don't include comic canon, I just pushed their first time together down by about four years.

It's funny that you mention how much damage I did to Faith. She's one of my top three fanfic characters, and yet I just keep piling the pain on her. Just wait until you see what else I have planned for her...

First off, the story was great, a solid mix of humor and drama. Nicely done!
Secondly, thanks for both the steady updates and for actually finishing it too.
Looking forward to more!

Thanks. I'm glad you enjoyed it.

One of the reasons I don't post stories until I'm done with them is to make sure I don't leave a fic abandoned. That always bugs me.

Overall an excellent story. I particular liked the friendship between Buffy/Anita and Faith/Ramona. Regarding the deaths in the story, I was saddened that Kennedy was killed just as she had finally grown up and was getting ready for a mature relationship with Willow. On the other hand you did reconcile Buffy and Satsu, so at least some of the characters got a happy ending. I look forward to reading more.
Comments from author:
Thanks. I'm glad you liked the story.

I felt like I needed a few "big" character deaths to make sure readers realized that "holy crap, this demon is for real". As I'd said, Robin was planned... but Kennedy wasn't. I'm thinking in the future of maybe revisiting B/A, and the sequel definitely continues the F/R friendship.

Demons always lie, except when the truth will hurt you more.

This is the kind of occasion when anti tank weaponry is your friend.

Though boss fights are always fun.
Comments from author:
Yeah, there will be no Buffy With Rocket Launcher Your Argument Is Invalid moments in this story. Sorry.

(In case you haven't seen it: http://escapepod.org/wp-content/uploads/2012/02/ea_b_rlaunch-300x224.jpg)

It's a two-chapter Boss Fight, too. For extra Boss Fight-y goodness.

Thanks for reviewing.

Sad that 4 people were killed. Yet, they did id Scott and where he worked! Happy that Buffy is back and willing to try loving Satsu again. Also, that Anita looks to be happy, too!
Comments from author:
Glad you're enjoying the story.

From the very beginning, I planned for my characters to face major loss in the story, and what makes loss hurt more than the death of someone the character loves?

Review:
Wow, great story. You don't seem to have any trouble killing off mini Slayers :( Poor Buffy feeling so guilty, and poor everyone else having to continue without her. Scott and Ramona are bit weird even for the Buffyverse but I like it. Hopefully Ramona has better luck than the Slayers have had so far in taking down Nega Scott. I also hope that Buffy doesn't Slay her accidentally for getting in the way. And why is Anita there?
Comments from author:
I'm glad you're enjoying the story.

I'm not really sure WHY Anita showed up. She just... did. I think because I needed something for Buffy to do in St. Louis. But don't worry; she eventually becomes important to the plot.

You know, it was never exactly explained why Scott was as stupid powerful as he is. As a Canadian, I'm more than content to say it's just a Canadian thing and that I've head butted.people core coffee money before. If you care to elaborate on it though, be my guest.
Comments from author:
Well, I mean, it's a movie (and a comic book). An explainer really isn't necessary. And when I saw the film, I really didn't care how he got to be as powerful as he is. I was just enjoying the hell out of the movie. When I wrote the Scott scenes, I went with the movie interpretation -- which is to say, "Scott is stupid-powerful, and there's no logical reason why".

Just wait until you see what else happens with him.

Thanks for reading.

Most awesome story Listener has going on here!! I really like all the intricacy in the various relationships and wonder about the one Buffy has with Andrew (if it will develop into something deeper)! I'll certainly be looking forward to more of this story.
Comments from author:
Thanks; I'm glad you like the story. There's a bunch more chapters still to come.

A Buffy/Andrew pairing? I have to be honest; I never in a million years thought of THAT one.

Scott was missing his personality big time. If he's dead then he can't redeem his blank face right? That store owner is evil and must be held accountable.
Comments from author:
I never said he's beyond redemption, just that an accident caused him to be speared by a beam of light...

Thanks for reading.

I had heard that about the comics (which is why despite enjoying the film I never read them).
And he plays a good dudesel in distress.

Still reading and enjoying, even the filler backstory.
