Minor quibble. Typically, cigar smoke isn't inhaled, rather the flavor is savored in the mouth, and then released. At least, that's what I've been taught.
Comments from author:
Weeellll, that depends. I took that little part of the scene from the movie "Crimson Tide", where Gene Hackman offers Denzel Washington a Havana cigar and says, "Part of your qualification for command" Denzel turns green when he inhales the smoke, is polite when asked "That's good, huh? Your first?" Upon admission, Hackman says "Don't like them too much, they're more expensive than drugs..."
THought that might be appropriate there for military types, especially high-ranking officer types like Captains and Admirals, which equate to full-bird Colonels and Generals in the Army...get what I mean? It's the politics of the thing...not the technique. Plus Buffy, in this story, is nearly seventy years old while not looking a day over eighteen, and she's a Slayer, so she can hack it...inhaling cigar smoke, that is, not hacking out a lung...LOL

Review:
While Event Horizon had great effects and actors plus some astonishing scenes of devil may care
heroism (the jump between space craft is awesome!) along with some fantastic vistas, I did not like
this gothic house of horror mash up of a movie. I hope you redeem this with Buffy as the last
Slayer. Perhaps it will restart the Slayer legacy?
Comments from author:
While that wasn't my intent, I do understand that it might affect Summers on a fundamental level, personally. But perhaps I could make that happen...if my Muse cooperates and I don't have to terminate her employment LOL...She's VERY expensive...
In the interim keep an eye out (pun intended) for new chapters to "Fall of the Republic" by grd; I've taken up this challenge and am working up to the point where I can add another chapter or two to this awesome tale of political intrigue and the Dark Side of the Force...

Great beginning to what looks like a very promising crossover. I look forward to reading more.

Thanks...I look forward to writing more. It amazes me how this thing has basically written itself so far. I hope my Muse keeps up the good work, else I might have to fire her...LOL

I really like the description of how Buffy became immortal. It's as believable as any other explanation yet original. I have a couple of things to point out for your explanation in this chapter. First, regarding Giles death; "the ripe old age of thirty-two", was that intentional? Second; Elizabeth Anne “Buffy” Summers, Buffy's legal name is Buffy Anne Summers. No where in the show was she ever referred to as "Elizabeth". Usually when authors use a different name it's due to some plot point such as she was adopted or something. Can we expect such a plot point coming up?
Comments from author:
Oops. Thirty-two? How did THAT happen? It was supposed to say eighty-two...
As for the name, since it's AU, should it matter? That's not me snapping at you, it's just food for thought. As long as "Buffy Summers" is in there somewhere it should be alright...shouldn't it?
Edit -- OK, fixed it, age at time of death was eighty-two years old. We good?

Fascinating idea and very good execution so far. I'm really looking forward to how Buffy deals with the come to life nightmares on the Event Horizon.

You made some interesting points in this chapter. The reason for her supposed Immortality, a way that is different than the Highlander immortals. And Frasier Crane? Are we talking about the SAME Frasier Crane from Cheers and Frasier? If so, this man has changed A LOT from those days!
Comments from author:
The very same...albeit with a somewhat, hmm, /sanguinary/ appetite now for porcine refreshment ...

The movie event horizon freaked me out--seriously I had nightmares. Sigh the things I watch for Jason isaacs.
An intriguing start and I like the mention of how tech has evolved to pick up supernatural events. You caught the important pony from the movie, the truth of the Latin message. I'll try to keep following but will bail if I start getting movie flashbacks.
ETA: pony. LOL. Oh autocorrect you kill me. I have bad visions of a defenseless pony trapped on the ship. :-(
Comments from author:
Sorry that you got scared so much from watching the movie. Truth be told, I found the plot of it somewhat disturbing as well. And over the course of time it seems that Whedon has "dumbed down" the idea of Hell being a place of eternal torment and reduced it to being just another place, where people with the right know-how can enter and leave as they please. Though I myself am not a follower of any religion per se, I would suppose that the idea of Hell should be one level of existence void of boundaries, where there is no exit and no escape, and where the torment is everlasting and horrible beyond comprehension. Spike hinted at this when he was retrieved for the Angel series, in an episode where he explained what was happening to him when he would suddenly "phase out" of sight or corporeal existence.
I hope this doesn't give you any flashbacks, but the idea is for Buffy and company to experience the horrors that the crew of the Lewis and Clark saw firsthand, and yet the intent is also for Buffy to resolve it and maybe somehow quantify it so there would be a way for USAC to somehow evade that awful place, and thus fulfill their original mission with the Event Horizon, which was to open an actual wormhole to Proxima Centauri and not a dimensional gateway to Hell.
So I hope that this reply gives you the courage to face whatever flashbacks you might somehow experience, though I pray you never do have them, that you may see this through to its triumphant conclusion.
Thank you for your review. Reviews feed my Muse and keep her happy and busy.
ETA: Oh, yeah, I know, I hate Android keypads, can't type for shit with them sometimes. Good thing I have my trusty laptop right here in front of my face. *grin*
Oh, BTW the tech in that movie did not pick up supernatural events, it wasn't programmed or designed for that purpose, so it looks like the bioscanners were malfunctioning when they were inspected. Perhaps when this is all over they will figure out how to make that happen...until next chapter!

Sounds like Buffy has got some ideas of what is going on, but needs to talk to people to confirm what she has in mind. And the tech ideas: I LOVE IT! Anything that can make the Watcher/Slayer combo better at doing their jobs sounds good to me!

Thanks for the tip on this story. It looks and sounds interesting. And, being a fan of the Wandererverse, I know of immortals and the idea of a immortal slayer. I never saw the movie, but from what I read of the first chapter, you have my interest.

So... she's the oldest living slayer, is immortal, very powerful, and the current Council is ordering her around? I can kind of see it happening--she's out in the field slaying all the time, and the home office people gradually take over operations, and the people she was personally close to are dead or retired...
Comments from author:
Sorry for answering so late, this kinda dropped off the radar while I was working on. "The Tragedy of Dawn Summers" and recently "Code Ragnarök". Rest assured this story is not dead; it's just been on hiatus.
Since you're the only one to comment on this story, and I would like to pick this back up soon, can you do me a favor and watch the movie "Event Horizon"", then give me some ideas on which way I could take this?
My idea was to have Buffy visit the two survivors of the first mission and get their perspective, then examine the wreckage of the "Event Horizon" itself before finally going back to Neptune and getting a feel of what went down with Buffy's Slayer senses as well as some good old fashioned investigation. As I'm thinking about this another idea just presented itself, that somehow she might find and rescue the captain of the "Lewis and Clark"
