you have a very interesting concept going here. I hope to see you add more to it. Xander did come off as a little pompous but so does picard a lot of the time. if your going to rewrite this chapter one thing you might want to consider. when Troi went for promotion to Commander she had to get command qualified in engineering and bridge systems. when she had troubles she conferred with Beverly. so as far as command qualified and trained personnel it would go, Xander, Giles, Jonno, Dawn, Troi then Oz and Cordie.

I would like to remind the author of one episode where Picard got given the memories of an entire second lifetime. So Xander would have over a hundred years of life outside of the US. 50 as Picard, and at least 80 as a member of a people who were from a unified planet.

Is there going to be more of this one? So far I like most of the stories that are responding to this challenge, and thus one is a good start.

I am wondering since your challenge has taken off if you plan to update soon. I think it is a great story and hope there is more to come.

I don't see why anyone would have a problem with thus chapter... You're absolutely right. Hell, when I first watched SG-1 I wanted someone to say much of what Xander said to the cast so badly it hurt.

I say run with what you've got. It's excellent. I hope you pick this story up again someday.

Well I don't know why so many people flamed the chapter, to be honest. It's a rational and understandable reaction to finding out that a secret project illegally declared a galaxy-wide war on an enemy with superior armament! Incredible story so far and I sincerely hope that you continue it!

My rating would have been higher if it hadn't by the last chapter. While Xander was IMHO too forceful and preachy, you had the SG1 behaving stupidly, a theme that is to common in some stories in this site (the fics that can be resumed in "sg1 suks bufy rools", I mean). With their knowledge of Picard, they could have guessed what reaction would he hadveand tried to present their case in better light. And in other note it has again the "Sam is too closeminded to accept the existence of magic" meme that I have always hated.

dude you really need to update this!!! (p.s maybe they should have the enterprise scan earth for technology and naquadah and maybe pick up on osiris's ship or maybe another one so they can get hyperdrive technology or send out a couple of shuttle to look for precious resourses for making a starbase and come across that ship in the kupier belt?)

I am truly enjoying this story and hope that you update soon , I am tracking most if not all of the responses to the Ship of the Line Challenge & am find them all most interesting but also so different to each other, some one shots others with ongoing development .

Hope for more updates ASAP so I have more to read .

With all the new SotL fics popping up lately I had to re-read this one. I still like it a lot. I think Xander in chapter 3 wasn't perfect but he did what he needed to- presented a strong front that wouldn't let any single group try to take control of his ship. How the reveal of the Stargate program will go to various nations at this point is certainly a question (I can't remember what season of Stargate this is being placed in) I doubt that the US will want to let every nation out there in on the secret, so, hopefully they can take him down into just involving NATO, the UN Security Council and countries like Australia, Brazil, Japan... I do still love that one of Xander's main goals was space colonization. There's probably a ton of resources in the stars around Sol and I wouldn't even be surprised if the Ancients kept an outpost or two in them and off the Stargate network. Really hope you find your muse on this and your other stories soon!

I don't understand why you would get flak for this chapter, I myself consider xanders behavior reasonable, a mix of xander and picard, I didn't find it hard to accept at all. Though I hope you don't plan to kill buffy, I can see her in a security chief uniform easily.
