Review of chapter "Chapter One" from Typhonis
Review:
Well if he had a reliable source I'm sure Xander could have gotten his hands on a Soviet Hind-A gunship. Blow shit up AND carry a pack of Slayers as well. If memory serves me right some guy actually bought a jet figter from the Russian government so a Hind is not that much of a stretch.
Comments from author:
That's true, but buying all of the parts from DLA ensures that he won't have any problems with the US government, since they're the ones selling it to him. ;-)

I'm fairly sure that buying a Russian gunship involves a whole lot more paperwork, and who wants to be bothered by something like that if you don't have to be? ;-)

Review of chapter "Chapter One" from Cateagle
Review:
::snicker:: As an engineer currently employed by Bell, I can well believe that this could be done. The amount of "obsolete" parts out there is likely incredible and if you know the right "bits" to buy, it's not *that* difficult. Mind you, I'm also familiar with some of the undocumented "shop practices" that went into building some of those Cobras and I figure piecing one together from parts would be an interesting challenge.
Comments from author:
Well, considering that we're talking about Xander and Andrew, geeks extraordinaire, this is not at all outside the realm of possibility.

And besides, if they can't get something to work properly the right way, they'll just cheat and use magic. ;-)

And, of *course*, the pair of them named it after the Airwolf..
Comments from author:
You act like there was ever any question about their doing that. Do you remember exactly who it is that built it?

Review:
A great fun salute to the powers of the geek. I have to admit I did think it was more along the lines of a 'Mech or Airwolf since Andy was so worked up but I can see the appeal of an attack helicopter.
Comments from author:
Exactly! ;-)

And if you're going to buy a helicopter, why not get one which allows you to rain 'death from above!' whenever you want? ;-)

Review of chapter "Chapter One" from trongod
Review:
Please let the Muses be struck by inspiration, as I think this cries for more! I wanna see The Great Faith/Xander Negotiations extended, as Dawn somehow learns that Her Xander is once again being wooed by That Woman and attempts to intercede, thereby allowing other Slayers to learn of their location and attempt their own... bargaining...

{snickers} I can see Xander now, talking with Faith as your scene faded out... 'But Faith, I respect you too much for that sort of thing! And besides, you don't really have to do that, I mean... Buffy! What happens when Buffy hears about this and tries to horn in! yeah, that's the ticket...'

Faith's sultry smile widens as her favorite - and only, to be honest - lover attempts to both talk his way out of this - So not happening! - and shift subtly toward the door and escape...

... But to be honest, for a while there I was picturing Airwolf swooping in...
Comments from author:
Anything more is up to my muse, though, to be honest, I can very easily see Dawn trying to negotiate a chance to fly 'Xander Air' and getting the evil eye from Buffy. ;-)

I'd rather have an A-10 Warthog but the 30mm Avenger cannon of theirs is probably harder to get your hands on than the one for the helicopter would be.

Comments from author:
While I agree that an A-10 would be a LOT of fun to own, the Cobra or SuperCobra would be a whole lot easier to park when you're coming home at night. ;-)

Well, as he is a member of the IWC he probably can get the right licenses to own and operate the weapons.
If you have the right licenses yes you can even get the weapons on the internet.

Great story!
Comments from author:
True. Enough money and/or political influence can get you pretty much anything you want.

Review of chapter "Chapter One" from EdBecerra
Review:
You gave Xander Airwolf.

*facepalms* *twice*

As for your question, yes, you can buy most of the weapons, if you know a dealer in the African and/or Southeast Asian markets. The cannon ammo is easy, we lost a lot of it in Vietnam, both stolen as well as abandoned in place when we pulled out. Cobra parts likewise - the North Vietnamese kept a lot of what was left behind once Saigon fell.

Missiles are harder, but not impossible. It's merely a matter of "Can you pay what the arms dealers are asking?"

It's not legal - but then again, neither are the Scoobies, technically speaking...

Sincerely,

Ed Becerra
Comments from author:
Thanks, Ed. I knew that you, at least, would know the answers. ;-)

And since when has legal had a lot to do with anything? ;-)

If and when the Cobra is offered for sale, it'll be on this site:

http://www.dudeiwantthat.com/

Until then, we'll have to be satisfied with the RPG-7 Bottle Launcher. With holy water, of course.
Comments from author:
Thanks for the link.

But you could (and still can, to a much more limited extent) buy spare parts for a lot of former military equipment direct from the Defense Logistics Agency's websites. This story is actually based on *real* *events*. That's what makes it so much fun! ;-)

Ah, nuts. It's just a cobra. I kept thinking they built their own Airwolf. Now that could be an interesting Haloween fic... Too bad I can't write very well.
Comments from author:
Ah, but remember, it's just barely finished the initial rebuilding. Give them a little time to customize it, and you'll have something to give the Death Star a run for its money. ;-)
