Review of chapter "Approaching Angelus-Rosedale Cemetery" from Rune
Review:
I agree that guns on the show would have been a no no.

And I'm pretty sure a 22, 25, or even 38 thats not a hollowpoint or blessed or somehow special would just piss of a vamp.

But even a plain ordinary solid 50 cal should hurt one.

The idea of blasting half a vamps head off should stop it and drop it if not dust it.

Vamps seem to be able to heal almost anything with time. Who says they cannot heal losing half a head? But I think it would take months if not years to heal that.

In the meantime you have a vamp body that will just lay there, messily true, but put down if not out.

I hope this is updated sometime.

Thanks.

It's part of the Blue Belle main storyline that I beta-tested separately from the story since I wrote it ahead of time and wanted to see how people received it. It's... roughly Chapter 37, give or take.

Review:
There are some significant disadvantages to using guns, you know. They are loud and attract attention, and are difficult to own legally in California, as far as I'm aware. At the very least a teenager running around with guns is going to attract police attention.

She's also doing her work in a city, which means that any misses are going to be a greater risk of hitting a bystander, since people could be walking by the nearby streets at any time. And since she's going to have to go for extremely traumatic rounds, they will travel a long way and do terrible damage to whatever they do it.

It's also a bad idea in general to use a weapon that is more effective on yourself than your enemies. It complicates working in a group, since any shots that don't kill a vampire could hit a vampire hunter (or even, with .50 caliber ammo, shots that hit a vampire can continue through and hit a hunter as well). When the bullet has to be aimed precisely against a supernaturally swift foe to inflict a kill, but could be lethal anywhere on the hunter... that could be a serious problem.

Also, most vampires are able to operate quasi-legally in the world, and many have nothing against technology. I'd have to think that she'd be wise to be wearing something bullet proof 24/7 if she started bringing guns into it. They would almost have to respond in kind, and she doesn't really maintain a true secret identity.

She's really better off sticking with the bow and arrow approach most of the time. Because if you want to talk about how 'realistically' guns would be advantageous, you also have to take into account certain realistic disadvantages as well.
Comments from author:
Considering Buffy would theoretically be operating under direct SHIELD supervision and sanction, most of the legal issues are easily waived. Before that, in canon? The same basic premise I use for Faith in Hockey Knight applies; there are legal loopholes under diplomatic immunity that could easily be used to arm Buffy and allow her to operate her firearms.

Buffy works primarily in uninhabited areas or industrial districts after most humans have left. We rarely see her in high-occupancy areas in S1-3. At this point, she's also reduced to operating alone. If she does team up with Cordelia and the mutant Cordettes, however? One can stop bullets with her mind, one is effectively too small to hit during combat, one can heal bullet wounds in short order, and the other will be trained in the proper use of firearms.

And while a FEW vampires have been shown to operate quasi-legally in the world via go W&H and the like, most wouldn't be able to pass background checks to acquire firearms. On account of being DEAD.

This made me think of my Fallout characters hunting vampires.

Wonder how well a vampire would hold up to an Anti-Materiel Rifle....... with exploding rounds.
Comments from author:
Well like I said, a .50 AE or .50 S&W pistol round would do it. Standard, before we get into hollow points or anything truly exotic. That's why the claim is so unbelievable, and you have to look at it through the eyes of a teen-centric network and show to find the truth: they just didn't want Buffy the Vampire Shooter. Especially since this was the era of Columbine.

Working on this one tonight. Problem being, Chapter 2 will spoil a LOT of the next ten chapters of Blue Belle. Need to figure out how to mitigate that, or if I just post it and let people be spoiled if they ignore the summary.

Review:
Hmm. Interesting. Not much more to say yet, since there's too little development. But it has potential. Kate is certainly amusing especially when she insults Buffy, and she says she's been 'ordered' to do this... which begs the question, ordered by whom? And to do what? Kate was part of the Young Avengers... assuming this holds true, might Emma have dropped a few words to Tony or some other friend of hers, which eventually filtered to 'protecting the Hellmouth=good idea. We need better people there, but can't devote the resources, so let's train the person already doing the job so she does it properly with backup'? And then The Avengers (or SHIELD, or whoever) sent Kate to start it up? Just that has a great deal of potential. I know I want to see more.

Edit: Rhetorical question, I assume, but yeah, definitely Kate. And after that Natasha, Clint and Tony, in that order.
Comments from author:
More of... who's Joyce going to be less creeped out by - or wary of - showing up at her doorstep? Clint? Natasha? Tony? Or Kate?

Doh! For some reason, I thought this was a one-shot when I started reading. It's an amusing start, and I enjoyed your enthusiasm.
Comments from author:
Yeah, there should be more of this (and Hockey Knight) soon. I'm trying to use it to drum up interest in people who've read Blue Belle, by showing that I do have a plan that extends past the end of the old chapters.

Ouch!

Can you say BURN?

It's somewhat amusing. Not long ago I asked you where Buffy was in the main story, and you gave me a nice explanation why. And now you've serialized what we weren't going to see in the main story.

This, is going to be interesting.
Comments from author:
This will be... Chapter 33b through whatever and maybe a bit of Chapter 34 in Blue Belle. You were on the receiving end of the gifted scenes, yeah? This occurs at roughly the same time as Zumba. :)

Forget a Big Mac. That girl needs a sack full of McRibs with extra mayo. Not because that actually tastes good, but for the extra calories.
Comments from author:
Yeah, that's one of those things that really bothers me about BtVS. "Oh, hehe, sometimes after slaying I crave nonfat yogurt!" An average healthy human consumes 2-3k calories a day. A Slayer? Given the activity level, she'd likely need anywhere between 6k and Michael Phelps's 12k to stay healthy. And so while the dialogue really plays well into SMG's near-anorexic appearance (she's eating like a dieting teen when she should be eating like an Olympian and her body is literally eating itself to stay alive), it likewise opens up a lot of opportunities for mockery. Hell, even before they were Called at the end of S7, the group of SITs probably should have been going through 40-50 people's worth of food on a daily basis given their training regimen.

But, you know, that would be logic. Whedon can't have that. So someone will get on Buffy's ass about her eating in this just as Emma pokes Jean about it in Blue Belle.

You know what funny Joe, the fact I do like Buffy for a reason I cannot phantom. Especially when most my favorite character tend to be the darker not really in the good side like Demona from Gargoyles or Azula from Avatar. It's also mean I like Faith too, considering she can apply in that aspect. But the hard thing about liking Buffy is the not so faltering personality of her especially the dumb blonde persona she keep using in the early season. Especially when I got the tidbit about her SAT is not as dumb as she make herself appear. ( unless it's actually Fanon and I don't realize it). Oh and the fact she slept with Angel, Mr. broody a lot he can challenge Edward from Twillight. Thought honestly I choose him over Edward anytime of the day. Because he the least irritating.

That why author who bashing Buffy way too much tend to make me cringe. You actually one of the better one that keep it's moderate because the thing about Buffy is she had too many flaw
and the same time she also had a good side on her. It just people tend to forget that in Buffy Verse, everyone had their own fault and pushing all of them to one person at least for me are totally ridiculous. There is no way she know how people will act and react of her action. If she know, the story had ended in Season Three already with her omniscient prediction*snort*. It just mean it's not her total fault, but it still her responsibility though.

Back to the story, why Kate there anyway? I know because of her Slayerness but how exactly she find out about that. If I recall right, I'm pretty sure Emma doesn't have a good realationship with Kate. Oh well, you probably explain about it later. Sorry about the rant, it just tend to annoy me when people take bashing to the extreme. Unless it's Bella Swan cause she defitinelty not the type of girl I want my younger sister to follow. I cannot believe someone cannot have at least a small show of backbone and common sense *grumble*.
Comments from author:
The SAT thing is canon because they realized that with Buffy's grades and extracurriculars (or lack thereof), she'd be relegated to a community college and those have a certain stigma attached to them, however unfairly. Not to mention that Willow staying for UC Sunnydale was already pushing it; trying to put her in a community college would have required serious Suspension of Disbelief. But… I'm sorry. You can't go "Look! Look at our dumb blonde! Look at her! Look at how dumb and average and Valley Girl she is!" for three seasons and then change that all of a sudden because it's plot-inconvenient. So, I'm looking at it this way: I watched from S1E01 through S2E08 to prepare to write this story. Anything that happens after it? Not canon in Blue Belle. So Buffy never got her personality shift or intelligence boost. She's still just dumb Buffy who - even after getting Lady Useless - epic fails at French. Who's selfish and wants the average ones "fray adjacent". Who's still immature enough that she'd let people die before she'd confront her vampire lover's soulless self… although we're not going to get to that point in Blue Belle. But if we did, she'd react like canon.

As for Kate… well, Kate is there on orders. To get Buffy out of the house and to a meeting with people of a higher pay grade than hers. She's a seventeen-year-old agent that was sent in because of her youth, meaning she could engage Buffy in just this way without arousing suspicion. I suppose Kate could have been a 'friend from school' but Buffy might have blown that cover too quickly. By perpetuating such an outrageous lie, it not only got her access to Buffy, it turned Buffy's curiosity against her. She wanted answers even before Kate brought up the Slayer factor. So it was child's play to get Buffy out of the house, away from Joyce, and into the car.

We find out who she's working for within the first five hundred words of Chapter 2.

Say Joe, is it a bad thing to replace tv Buffy with movie Buffy when reading a naughty fic?
Comments from author:
*googles Kristy Swanson*

*googles Sarah Michelle Gellar*

No, my friend. Not it is not. Now if only the characters around her could replace TV Buffy with Movie Buffy, she might have better romantic prospects than a vampire. It's kinda sad. Like Cassie, who got stuck as the obligatory Avenger Chick With A Robot Boytoy.
