Review of chapter "The Line I Have to Cross" from (Recent Donor)JanessaRavenwood
I'm coming in a bit late here, but this is one of the more engrossing stories I've read here in some time. Please update soon!

Nitpick: Faith's last name is "Lehane," not "Lehan."
Review By [(Recent Donor)JanessaRavenwood] • Date [21 Jul 14] • Not Rated
Review of chapter "Prologue" from Ltlconf
Well, "Lehane" is canon, used in all canon material, and picked by Joss himself. You don't have use it iffin you and anyone else don't like (this being fanfic and all), but it ain't fanon and is what it is:Canon.
Faith is Southie Irish, also canon (to the point of Faith's dad being an Irish Mob bottom feeder) and Spencer is a veeeery WASP-ish name. Any Irish Southie (and in the 80s you could count WASPs from there on you hand; wasn't gentrified yet) would shudder at being given such a name, and Faith is Southie to the bone.

And THAT is what the name gives to Faith's character: She was born in what was in the early 80s (when she would've been born) a OVERWHELMINGLY blue-collar-to-dirt-poor Irish Catholic (hence the name "Faith", from the Three Virtues of Catholic theology, "Faith, Hope, and Charity...sounds similar to certain episode, hmmm?). Also has a lot of Greek and further explains Faith's lightly olive skin tone and some facial features. Faith is the ethnic, East Coast, big city, blue collar Slayer to Buffy's, Middle Class, white bread, suburban, Californian, WASP Slayer. One brunette, brash, and very colorful (seriously, the whole all black, cleavage-y, leather thing is fanon. Seriously, she even wore tie-dye candy-cane striped shirt...after switching sides!) The other's blonde, can't even SAY "sex" in conversations (even when relevant), and wears pastels. The names again hint at this.

Lehane is also Gaelic for "grey" or "gray" which in either case DOES fit Faith perfectly in many subtle and less than subtle ways. Faith, even as a 'good guy' strikes me as someone who's willing and able to do the necessary dirty deeds Buffy's not. Not cause she lacks ideals, but because where she comes from the authorities are NOT your friend, trusting strangers can get you killed, survival is down to you, and alot of folks really are out to get you. Thus you simply do what you think you gotta do, don't do it half way, and move on. If this sounds like war, it should. Living on the streets is ugly, for a teen girl as pretty as Faith it can be BRUTAL. Every street kid I've worked with had PTSD to some degree...Faith in early Sn 3 was textbook.
Naturally, Faith lacked "faith". Hence the irony in the name. And Faith to survive has had to make choices based largely on survival, not right or wrong...and no one to trust. Thus she's often by necessity "grey" morally and ethically.
So suits there. "Faith"was meant to be ironic as well as "Irish Catholic" and "Lehane" descriptive of her character as a person.

As for when the name was handed down and why? For the licensed rpg of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" by Eden Studios back 'round 2003. Joss handed down last names for Kendra and other characters, no matter who, even one-shots like the teen female tk from "Angel: the Series" sn 1! We tabletop rpg players are that anal, HEH.
(In "Try Calling" Eliza again played a character with a Celtic surname, Davies is Welsh and Cornish, and both Celtic groups once known for dark hair and large dark eyes!)

Just my two cents.

The Cracker!

One nitpick - Faith's last name is "Lehane," not "Lehan" - I'm not sure why the "e" is chopped off.

Review of chapter "Part 1: On the Healing Properties of Ice Cream" from draconis
Sorry you bowed to 'public pressure' renaming Faith to "Lehan" (sic, should be I think Lehane if you want to be consistent with many (but not all) other fanfic stories)

While Lehane is an obscure Irish name and thus somewhat "historically" befitting a Boston native, I've never liked its use in BtVS fanfic. It just doesn't feel at all "edgy" enough for Faith's character. In addition, the word association and origins just don't contribute to the character.

Spencer is also a common name in the northeast states due to its anglic name roots around 1066AD/CE (1)
I think it's an astonishing coincidence that the two surnames converge at the Battle of Hastings 1066AD/CE (2)

I've always preferred the earlier generally used fanfic name of Faith Spencer over Lehane. Mostly because Spencer is edgier, but also because it refers to someone who was positioned in a manor or monastery...both polar opposites of what one would expect from Faith. I find that fun.

Plus, having a lineage that traces back to a monastery is not only funny, but provides an actual associative/familial reason for parents naming their baby girl Faith (Faith==monastery).

Plus, I claim that the manor/land-owner position of Spencer/Dispenser directly associates with Faith "dispensing" kick-ass Slayer action on demons.

All in all I believe my multiple logical reasons for preferring the earlier "Spencer" over "Lehane" are quite justified.

I'm guessing the use of Lehane started up with the "authorized" comics, even though Spencer was used in early fanfics?

Comments from author:
Actually in most of my earlier fanfics I called Faith by the last name "Capriss". Not sure where that came from, really, but I used it quite a bit. I think I also used "Winters" as a last name once, but that was more of a joke, really. Don't think I ever used Spencer.

Review of chapter "Newcomers and Misunderstandings" from AllenPitt
Quite a tangled mess. So a 1978 "Initiative" ended badly. The survivors are determined not to allow a repeat. They think they know all about the supernatural but in reality they're as much amateurs as the current group is. Don't know about the slayer or don't realize that's what was encountered.
And... Riley's group hasn't been told about this earlier effort. All we need for everything to be perfect is for Faith to wake up soon.

No No don't stop updating just cause people don't review... I know I personally have loved your stories for YEARS ever since I found the one where Angel and Buffy go to Hell together Excedo Inferi.

I've read every one at least twice and was SO glad to see you posting them here so I could re-read them again! Just remember it is summer here in America and it always seems the volume of readers/reviewers goes down when the sun is out and there are fun things to do before winter sets in again =p

Have heart and know your stories ARE appreciated and loved by some of us and please let us enjoy them here?

Oh no, poor Faith! And poor Buffy, too! Gah. As much as any flavor of magical mind-control rape creeps me out, and the Huntsman feral mating thing gets close enough to hit the squick buttons, this has a lot of other things going for it, so I'm hanging in there to see where it goes.

Review of chapter "Part 13: Midnight Phone Calls" from (Current Donor)jedibuttercup
This is definitely an interesting fic, so far. But I think two things are hurting you in the review department: (1) you actually went there and said you were going to hold the story hostage for reviews, which has a tendency to backfire with people like me who think to themselves, "well, that just means there's a much higher likelihood of the story not ever getting finished, why bother to follow it at all?" and (2) a lack of clarity when it comes to the purpose of the story. Is this going to stay B/A? Or is it a thinly veiled Buffy/OC? Or is it primarly an altered-plotline type of narrative aiming for a particular non-romance-related end goal? In other words, given the two levels of uncertainty, why should I bother to keep following?
