I think given how Giles had treated Faith to that point, getting her to trust him even if he'd said all the right things as you list them here (and very eloquently too) would have been difficult. Good story though.

I think she was closer to that point than you might think. But to each their own.
This was a pretty good what might have been, and then those two lines at the end make you realise it never was. Now Giles is reflecting on the path not taken with us and it's poignant and brilliant. Very well done.

Thank you. I really like this one and wish I could have written more. I may take those last two lines off sometime if the muse ever strikes again.

I hardly think that Giles' quip about Tea was "quipping with the best of them" :) The rest of the story was pretty awesome of Giles though. I like how he said it was self defense not murder. I don't know if he should have said that the WC would set up another human to die and one to take the rap. I don't think Buffy would be happy to know about that. She doesn't have much experience with humans that would be better off dead.

Maybe. But Giles got so few good lines on the show.
A man jumps out at a woman in a dark alley. That's clearly self-defense.
I like to think that the WC is just as ruthless in protecting their weapons as they are in deploying them. And that lack of experience with evil humans came back to bite them later.

It's a great shame that this never happened in canon but Season Three would have been duller otherwise without Faith going bad. Great story and the ending was poignant.

I know. This is kinda my own fan service, "If only this had happened." I'm sure they could have come up with another monster. Thank you for the review.
