That whole conversation at the end seemed designed to piss xander off, and I don't imagine that was an accident unless fate's nonhuman perspective caused a fumble on his social attack.

I personally would find it amusing if what happened to xander's father wasn't because of fate but inspite of it and xander was simply misinterpreting/jumping to conclusions.

That mr harris died precisely because fate's plans were thrown off course and something unexpected happened as a result of xander meddling and then held up as a warning rather than a premeditated attack made to cow him into not acting. So xander essentially killed his own father by causing unpredictable things to happen. Which seems like a much more effective social attack than what actually happened.

that misinterpretation even fits the wording, if you make allowances for different perspectives messing up the explanation.

so instead of 'stop interfering or we will place your loved ones in danger' it would be 'your actions have consequences that you cant see or understand, so cut it out'.

I personally would like that, otherwise it seems incompetent for a being able to model xander's likely reactions to specific events, unless the intent was to enrage him.

Nice to see a new chapter of this story up, and glad to hear that you're going to start writing again on a regular basis. Don't hesitate to take time off or take it easy though. I'd rather you take your time and not burn yourself out or anything, as I've unfortunately seen with quite a few other authors over the years elsewhere.

You mentioned that while annoying to Fate, Xander isn't really much of a threat the the long term goals and plans of Fate. Might this change somewhat down the line if/when Angel and possibly Cordelia move to Los Angeles, assuming Xander and/or any of the other Sunnydale Scoobies stay in touch with them in LA, or assuming that changed events don't result in one or both of them remaining in Sunnydale.

Even if Fate operates on another level of existence, if push comes to shove, might there be any flunkies anything working for Fate that Xander might be able to deal with at some point down the line?

Although I *sincerely* hope that despite Xander's loud declarations, he will be able do do exactly *nothing* against Fate.

Fate itself will be unharmed in even the slightest. As he himself said, all he's going to be is the biggest tiny little annoyance he can.

I'm trying to make clear that humans simply [i]cannot[/i] understand the perspective of these beings - they see many, many more things, can be in more places, etc, than us. Xander is starting to make and will continue make big waves in the context of his own life and that of his friends and the people around him, but in the grand scheme of things, it really is like taking a teaspoon of water in an ocean and dropping it into one of the Great Lakes or something. So no, Xander won't do anything to fate itself. He will force them to plan around him, and over turn those plans, but to Fate, the plans involving his friends and the Hellmouth in Sunnydale in general are minor ones, comparatively.

I kind of wonder if a "lowly mortal" is able to request an audit from the Boss In Charge for possible violations of free will...

Interesting approach to Xander's father. The extradimensional characters that are getting themselves involved are all such 'big picture' types. They seem to forget that for want of a shoe...a kingdom can be lost. And Xander? He'd be happy to take the shoe they need and run off with it. Glad to see life hasn't stolen all the momentum from this story though. Hope you find time for more...but should you not...we understand and appreciate the work you DO do.

My life has mostly stabalized, and I'm back in the rythym of writing, so output should be back to my normal 1 chapter a week, for the four fics I do as the goal, give or take a day or two

Fate and the PTB are differant beings. The PTB have differant plans than Fate and use differant means to achieve them.
