Another excellent update you've given is to finish out the month, well done:)

Nice to see Mr Trick finally get what he deserves, and it was so nice of him to let the Slayers and Angel kill a few of his vamp friends as we'll. Sad to see detective Stein meet a bloody end, but such is life when you live in Sunnydale. On the other hand, I can hardly remember a vampire or anyone ever killing members of the Sunnydale Police at anytime in canon. If Wilkins is successfully defeated and his hold over Sunnydale is broken similar to canon, I wonder if having one of their own become a vampire victim might see some of the Sunnydale PD deciding not to act so deeply stupid.

It's also interesting seeing continued developments in regards to Amy Madison and Wilkins using her to do his dirty work instead of Faith. In some ways her position with Wilkins in this story seems worse then the relationship Faith had with Wilkins. If she manages to survive until Wilkins is killed, perhaps Giles might need to take her to England to visit that group of witches that helped Willow after canon season 6.

Now that Faith is likely not to join with Wilkins, perhaps Buffy and Faith could try to reduce the threat Wilkins poses by going after some local vampire nests and hangouts, try to trim the number of vampire cannon fodder that he can throw at them.
Comments from author:
That's the theory behind patrolling, after all, so definate point there.

As for Amy, well, that's certainly possible, but she's not so much dealing with magic addiction/overload as panic - essentially, she's transfered all the fear she had about her mother to this mysterious warlock. She's terrified he'll tell the others about how he gave her the spell, and how they'll react. Maybe not entirely rational, but since when are people rational when panicked?

I always did find Stein to be a bit of an odd bird - he actually seemed interested in doing the right thing, justice-wise, rather than being an irrelevant toady of the Mayor, like other cops seemed to be.

Glad you liked it!

Well, things are certainly continuing to change, though not always for the better in Stein, Trick, and Amy's points of view. I'm interested to see where things go! Will Amy manage to come clean to someone and have some help getting out from under the Mayor's thumb?
Comments from author:
An interesting question that you will no doubt eventually find the answer to. :)

Thanks for the review! Glad you liked it.

Review:
Great to see this updated again, and looking forward to seeing where this goes.

Considering the various changes that have occured in this story compared to canon events, I'd say that overall your portrayal and handling of Faith's reaction to killing Finch seems reasonable given the difference in her development and interactions with Buffy and the other Scoobies being much better than in canon to this point. Having the support of Amy Madison also seems to be quite helpful, especially with Amy having recently been forced to kill her mother, having someone to talk to that has a similar traumatic experience can be a good thing if they've moved past it and learned to cope with it successfully.

It's nice to see also that Giles is managing to keep Wesley from throwing Faith under the bus right away. This might lead to Wesley developing into the person we was in "Angel" sooner perhaps, not necessarily a bad thing depending on how things go.

It's also interesting seeing the developments with Xander, and how this is effecting the actions of Cordellia quite a bit. With both of them still seeing each other, I take it no Anya showing up, or at least not under the same circumstances as canon. This could also result in butterflying away the Willow Vampire from another dimension down the line as well.
Comments from author:
Certainly all possible.

In the show, Wesley has a number of 'turbo points' (as I've been taking to calling them, in my mind) where his trajectory from incompetent fool to total badass/darker/edgier. He's always moving up towards that, but there are a few moments when the pace at which he improves increases - when he's fired from the Council, when he's shot in The Thin Dead Line, and when he gets his throat slit/his friends abandon him. Without those, while he may have improved, he would have done so at a much slower clip.

Anyway, glad you liked the chapter!

I am curious why you only answer some reviews and not others. Is it only because they are asking a question or saying something relevant to the chapter?
Comments from author:
That's often the case. Also depends on how much time I have when I notice the email that says I got a review (as sometimes I'm in a rush or busy with other things as well) and that sort of thing.

Hmm, it seems even though they weren't able to stop it there's a bit of a butterfly effect anyway just from them being witnesses. Them coming clean to Giles and such.
Comments from author:
The butterfly effect has a lot more to do with Faith's different relationship to the group and the inclusion of Amy than anything else.

To each his own I guess but I always find it amusing to say the least when people make a point about owning the characters or plot ideas in their fanfic. Do you not see the humor in warning people away from using or plagiarizing your ideas when your whole fic is based on those of a published author?

Not saying you don't have a right to claim copyright just as a few authors refuse to allow fanfics of their work but I mean, come on think it through.
Comments from author:
I created the Iron Coin, the Jester, et cetera. They are my products, so yes, they are mine to own, and I would like to keep use of them. Most fanfiction sites have plagarism rules regarding such things, and given that the odds of any person wanting to write fanfic of my Original content is limited, the rare person that wants to can ask me. My fanfic is not the same thing as a real work. Were I making money off of a story about the Iron Coin, etc, and thus it was 'real' in a published sense, etc, I'd have no issue with people using it for fanfic, because I'd have bigger things to worry about.

Good to see a new chapter. It's also good to see Giles having a chance to talk some sense into Wesley, or at least attempt to, before Wes had a chance to go off half cocked and make things worse.

Too bad he didn't have the chance in canon, nor the Council authority to make it count by overruling Wes.

"In this particular case, I will say that if you're concerned about my characterization of Faith here – thinking it a little out of character or something –"

I'm not seeing an issue. Faith reacted here the way she did in canon: guilt, shock, horror, remorse... followed by attempted denial. The difference here is, unlike canon she had someone to talk to whom she considered a friend that she could trust to dump it on. In canon: Buffy wasn't any help, Buffy was as deeply in shock and denial as Faith was, only Buffy was denying that she had any part in Finch's death. (I don't recall Buffy ever admitting on screen that she threw him to Faith.)

Plus, there were witnesses that saw Buffy actually throwing Finch to Faith to stake, and preventing Faith from going as deeply into denial as she might have otherwise... and Cordy's 911 call prevented her from attempting to dump the body.

So no, I'm not seeing an issue with Faith's portrayal.

Butterfly Effect: you change something, and the changes ripple out from there. They have to. The entire situation is different, so the specifics of Faith's reactions are different. They *have* to be.

If only someone had done that to Wesley earlier. We know deep down he isn't such a prick, he just needs the chance to prove it.

Sigh...most be frustrating for Xander, honestly. And the coughing? Someones just being a douche now. But I'm glad X and C are still together, their my favorite pairing.

Hope Amy can help Faith, she needs someone in her corner. And maybe Xander & Cordelia too, those two aren't Buffy, they have a more real and down to earth outlook. Great to see an update, need another soon.

Can't think of much to say other than nice to see things continuing, and I look forward to seeing where you take this and some of your other stories, particularly Exit Strategy.

While Faith seems to be getting into a bad spot after killing Finch same as in canon, she's been getting along with the others somewhat better up until this point which might help considerably, and Giles might have more pull to deal with her and keep Wesley from doing anything counterproductive.

I also like seeing that Xander is finding out that while the Iron Coin can and has been useful at times, there's no guarantee that it will always be helpful. Perhaps aside from trusting in the Iron Coin so much to make a difference, perhaps Xander might double down on improving his research skills somewhat, or maybe even asking Giles or someone to help him when it comes to combat training, if only to improve his ability to defend himself a bit better. Not to get rid of the coin, but I could see him wondering of he's become somewhat too dependent on using it at the expense of other avenues of helping.
