Review:
Stingray was very similar in format to VU, but "Ray" as he was only called was more of a super agent. Martial-artist, knew every skill, he was the next step down from Jared from The Pretender.
Mr. Chapel on the other hand was more of a regular guy. the way he removed his fingerprints was from burning his fingertips over & over using cheap oily microwave popcorn.
I was lucky enough to tape a couple of episodes during the shows original run.
Since I see I didn't mention it yet... Your story was very good. Keep up the good work.

Awesome story! Melinda is very admirable and I'm glad she to to make a difference for someone else. I loved VU even though I only saw a couple of episodes. I always wondered how he got started though. If he uses up more than one favor on each case then he must have started with a stack of them from something else. I guess sometimes he must use money too, but a million dollars doesn't go as far as it did 30 years ago!
Comments from author:
I remember him being raised in an orphanage run by nuns or somesuch -- I think. My guess is that someone was putting pressure on the orphanage and after he got back from military service he used his abilities to save them, and that in turn gave him the seed money to start up (in my head, the bad guys had a suitcase of cash, naturally). But yeah, he did use up a LOT of favors each episode, didn't he... one would guess he did a lot of small jobs that didn't take up much time, just like we never saw every single vampire Buffy dusted.

Thanks for reading and reviewing. I'm glad you enjoyed the story.

You mentioned a shortlived TV series with a "problem solver" who was repaid with either a million dollars or a future "blank check" favor.

I am reminded of a similar show called "Stingray" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stingray_(NBC_TV_series) TV on from 1985-87. It starred a mysterious hero who saved people's asses or otherwise did them huge services (forex finding a kidnapped child) in return for the promise of a "blank check" favor sometime in the future.

The return favors ranged from rather small, safe and easy to huge and/or personally very dangerous. IIRC they ranged from a doctors quietly patching up a victim to being called on for a _very_ dangerous undercover mission.

I've never heard of Stingray, but it sounds very much like Vengeance Unlimited. Although, if you think about it, the concept itself certainly could be thought of by multiple writers independent of each other.

Thanks for reading.
