Nice dark story and I like your explaination as to why Angelus didn't kill Xander where he stood. I so hated Angel/Angelus on Buffy. I didn't mind him so much when he got his own series, but I so wanted to see him staked on BtVS. Sigh! 100 years in hell wasn't long enough.

Personally, I always figured that Angelus just acknowledged Xander's point about the amount of fuss he'd stir up in the hospital if he tried to go after Buffy now and decided that it wasn't worth it; Angelus likes to maintain control when he's causing a panic.

I loathe those stories where Angelus was supposedly frightened of Xander. He'd have been dead before he realised Angelus' hand was around his jaw, snapping his neck.
