I don't know the Alex Rider books, but reading this as a Bond story, with the excellent characterisations of the characters from that 'verse, is a joy. Keep going. I am definitely along for the ride!
Ooh, I really like this. I completely appreciate the way you've presented Alex Rider, and M's assessment of what's been done to her/him is kinda how I felt about Rider, too.
I am dying to see how Bond and Rider meet up, but really uncomfortable with the idea of her entering into a sexual relationship with Bond. If that's where you're eventually going (I see that she's a legal adult, after all)...I'll deal. I trust you, based on what you've written so far.
Great characterization of Bond's internal monologue, too. Seems very real.

Very intriguing. The Rider series was a summer favorite in our house and this is a good start to an interesting crossover. I get why you gender swapped Alex but I think a mentor relationship would have greater potential. Tracking so I can stay on this wild ride. Hee

Bond's reaction to her, especially this new Bond played by Daniel Craig, is spot on. I can just see how he would react to someone like Alex. And her reaction, once she realized that she had his attention, was also exactly as I would visualize it. Excellent chapter!

Extremely well thought out and well written. I really liked the gender shift. It was a big surprise. I have read the Alex Rider books, and you have the character down pat, especially if he was a girl. Imagine the difficulties that a young girl would experience dealing with the twisted beings that inhabited those books. I imagine that it would not be pretty.
I also really liked M's internal monologue as well as what she told Alex. I personally think you made her a girl to put even more pressure on her not to retreat from the life of espionage. While a man can undertake many careers and even experience a great deal of risk while doing so, it is much, much harder for a woman to do the same. Add extreme beauty to the mix and the pressure on her to conform to societal expectations would be extreme. Bravo.

This is a fascinating crossover and one that I've often wanted to see done well. While your writing has seemed to be good, I don't particularly care for the gender-shift in an attempt to pair the two off. I think that the two series can tie in very well without there needing to be a romantic entanglement, and said romantic focus can actually serve to take away from the potential of the fic.
All in all good, and definitely something I will be watching for, even though I would have far preferred Alex having remained male.

A bit uncertain about the reason for the gender shift- so far I'm not seeing anything that couldn't have been done with the male Alex, and the potential 'protege' dynamic that could have been created between him and Bond might have been interesting to see-, but the central premise is still interesting enough to merit keeping an eye on this story...

Why bother shifting the gender of Alex? This was well written, no doubt, but the gender shift just irks me.
thanks for sharing and keep penning, Marns (another adult who has both read and written Alex Rider stuff) ~pN

Ah - a purist! ;-) It's a set up for a Bond/Rider pairing and I can't really write slash, plus the one thing I always thought about skimming the Rider books as an adult is that Horowitz never really covered the really dark things that could have happened to Alex. A child in the power of adults who want to break him? Emotional/physical/sexual manipulation would not be out of the realms of possibility. Change it slightly - make it a girl in those situations and the ball game becomes a lot darker.
