Review:
A very well written dose of reality about what actions may have been required and the slippery slope.

I enjoyed this very much. You have taken an aspect of BtVS that isn't often explored and run with it. By the end of the series, all of the Scoobies had pretty serious dings on their tarnished halos. Buffy, Faith, Xander, Willow, Giles -- all of them have done some pretty dark and ruthless things in the name of the greater good. (Or not, in Willow's case.) The survivors from Angel Investigations also have blood on their hands. I think most of them are capable of heading pretty deep into the shadows while rationalizing it to themselves.

If one also accepts the rather strong indications that the US & British governments (and probably most major nations) knows of the existence of the supernatural, if not the Slayer herself, the stakes could become very high indeed. I can easily see a situation where some nations try to force their slayers to work for the government, while others try to co-opt the new Council in some way. It could get very ugly very quickly, despite the Scoobies' best intentions.

Please, continue!

Well, this was an interesting shot here, and would be nice to see another story in this 'verse here, just to see what all Xander would do when he may come back, and the other challenges from within and without also.

Like Dawn, this story has some serious legs to it; hope to see (bunches of) more when the Muses allow!

Very few stories really take the ripper and Ben incidents and expand from them, and I think you caught Giles' character perfectly here, even by Dawn's version of him, so it'd be interesting to see more discussion between these two - not to mention the attraction noted here - in whatever comes next.

- "Of course, Buffy's even snittier than she would've been because she had to kill two NID Special Agents herself last year – it was self-defense, but still. It was necessary to rescue a couple of young Slayers from some secret government lab, but it took Buffy months to sort out her head."

NID? Do I smell a Stargate crossover cameo here? :)

I think this conversation from Doctor Who sums up my thoughts on the matter

Donna: Promise me one thing though, Doctor.
The Doctor: What's that?
Donna: That you'll find somebody.
The Doctor: I don't need anybody.
Donna: Yes you do. Because I think sometimes you need somebody to stop you.

Interesting one-shot. I'm not a fan of Xander (I can't stand him really), but Dawn is right in saying that the Scoobies need someone to ground them, and he their best shot. Hope to see more.

Very nicely done. Places BtVS in the real world and brings a great dose of realism/pragmatism to the story. I really hope you continue this story idea.

Absolutely love this - mostly because of the slant of Giles getting his hands more than bloody fighting to take over the council and protecting the scoobies while doing it!

I've always thought the whole "don't kill humans" thing was something the Shadow Men through in and maybe the Council reinforced with each Slayer and maybe that was part of the reason for the Cruciatem 'cause it could only be done once and the older a slayer got it kind of wore off... but of course not something Willow would have known about when she did the mass call. That's my theory anyway :-)
