A dimensional shambler? In the ladies?!
Comments from author:
Well it would have looked odd in the Gents!

Review:
A fun story, even with the British-isms. I decided to suspend disbelief that the scoobies would use local slang for everything. At least you didn't write about Faith parking in a car park. That might be going too far. :-)

Thanks again.
Comments from author:
Actually people will start to use local words for things, its something about not wanting to stand out. Anyway, I usually make observations about the different names for things that British and American's use.

Glad you liked,
D.

Is it wrong that I saw the title and immediately thought of Skellern & Stilgoe's "Joyce the Librarian"?

Edit: they only stopped touring in 1999, that's not that long ago. [Feels old.] There's a decent version of the song on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-5ftzeIYAWc
Comments from author:
Never heard of them(?). I was thinking Elton John when I chose the title. Oh, hold on those names abut from a long, long time ago!

Cheers,
D.

As a public county library librarian I would just like to say, WONDERFUL story. I did find a few errors in your story. For instance, except for the ape, well actually we do have some extremely hairy and smelly patrons. Except for the creature, well actually see previous statement. Except for the smartass bitch, well actually we get them too. OK, you've captured what truly being a librarian is perfectly.

I love the mental image of Faith, Combat Librarian! Roo-Haw!
Comments from author:
Before starting a new season of Grim up North I asked myself; 'What is the most unlikely job Faith would do?'

I think I hit the target there.

Speaking as someone who used to work in a University (luckily I was in a job where I could treat the students with the contempt they so richly deserved...I was even allowed to snarl at them and use...SARCASM!) I've met some students like the girl mentioned.

Now I've got to work out what Willow actually does when she's not at Slayer Central.

Cheers,
D.

"laddered my tights" ?

Are you British or Canadian? 'Cause all the American girls I know say they have a run in their hose, not that they've laddered their tights...
Comments from author:
I'm English.

If you look back in the story I think you'll find a comment about Pantyhose and Tights. As these stories are sent in Northern England the differences between what Americans and British call things is sort of a running joke.

I have heard UK women refer to their 'hose' and having a 'run' in them, but its not very common

As the Scoobies have been living in Cleveland (a county in England not the one in Ohio) for over three years now, I tend to have them call things by either their British or American names. After all people do pick up local slang and words very quickly.

The word 'county' is a case in point. In Britain a County's nearest American equivalent I think would be a State. An American County would be similar to an English 'Parish', but I could be wrong.

Cheers,
D.

I like Faith in this job, the force of Knowledge is good for her soul, that, and a mean right hook to punish those trice cursed bloody brats who don't want to pay up their fines and damage the poor books!!... herm, sorry, I helped for a while in my old school library and that kind of "clients" were a pain in the neck.
Cool fic, see ya!!.

Books are important and you don't need electricity to read them!

“same-old, same-old, y'know?”

Now THAT is true humor, the way I like it!

Congratulations again, a beautiful story, and a fitting conclusion to a "Grim North" story!

There's still a library at the university? That can afford books and two librarians???

OK, I know this is fantasy, but you really don't want to suspend our disbelief _too_ far!
Comments from author:
Hey look this is set in 2006...I worked at a University then and we had several libraries...and more than two librarians...honest!!!

Those were the days, eh?

Cheers,
D.
