Review of chapter "All The Marbles" from JasonBarnett
reading through your reviews here...

Anya is pretty much a person who doesn't know when to shut up. I think it's fair for people to figure "Well, Anya hasn't mentioned anything so I guess she doesn't know anything"

We have no idea what ascension was, so we had no reason to assume Cordy didn't deserve it. It wasn't a sainthood.

edit: still it could have been something like a promotion. Cordy was a seer, an Oracle if you will, and season 1 had those Oracles who worked for the PTB who were killed.
Comments from author:
Completely agree on Anya.

I think I along with many other people to ascension translated if not sainthood then something pretty darn close to it. She "became" a higher power.

Ascension (mystical), the belief in some religions that there are certain rare individuals that have ascended into Heaven (or higher plane) directly without dying first.

I have never agreed with this series arc. It wasn't just that Cordelia hadn't done anything to deserve it. I don't really think any of the characters had. Now, dying and going to heaven yes. They were wonderfully flawed and Joss pretty much ruined many of them.

finished already. Wonderful story and very good writing.

One thing though. I don't agree with some reviewers. Buffy is the Slayer, she is the one who makes the though decisions, she is the one who normally stands alone when it counts, she is the one who fight alone every night and at the end, she is the one created to protect the innocence.

So she had backup now, she had family and once a long time ago she had some real friends who stood beside her and trusted her instincts, they were never wrong before. Now she had just friends who wanted her to act normal and forget to be a Slayer during the day. But also wanted her to be a Slayer at night. Later they only saw a weapon they could sent out to fight and take the trouble away so they could live normal life. A weapon with no brains, no opinion of her own and do as told, getting out of line and she would be punished. To me the last seasons they weren't her friends anymore but just people who are used to be friends with buffy and wouldn't let that part go away because that part made them special.

They kicked her out because people died. Well war would do that. I wish it wouldn't but it does and still do. People died when they got to the depot because there was a bomb. Because the Scoobies made the decision together it was alright. Bullshit if so many people can make such big mistake how can you trust them to not do it again. Meaning people dye because there are things you don't know on forehand. Neither can Buffy and neither can the Scoobies.

With the First Buffy was all Slayer and had to think and act that way. World safety was at stake and not only theirs. They told her to act as a General but forgot a General doesn't need to know the names off the potentials and don't need to train those potential. That was Giles job. When she acted as a General they kicked her out. They again wanted everything, Buffy the human, Buffy the Slayer, Buffy the General, Buffy the one who would protect them etc. They never asked what Buffy wanted.

They forgot and Buffy included, good friends always back you up and if you do something you disagree with you talk about it. That part goes both ways. They never talked things through and if you don't do that, it means you don't trust each other enough. They forgot how to be friends and how to work together. Sad if you think about it. Together they were stronger than anybody else. The spell taking Adam out proved that part. Some people blame Buffy for everything but to me The Scoobies, Giles included, are the ones to blame. They thought they were unbeatable and thought they knew how to do it right. Forgetting that they aren't the Slayer, Buffy was or is, she has al the memories from former Slayers so the knowledge how to fight. to act etc. Pulling her from heaven proved how much they needed her not the other way around.

And gosh this is a big one thing though, sorry about that. A well I won't delete it because I still think that way and you already know I love your writings and think they are very good.

Thank you so much for such a wonderfully written and insightful review. I really appreciate it.

I understand that you can't please everyone, and so I take the good with the bad. My stories are the way I wrote them, good or bad. I love to write, and enjoy hearing others response to them.

Thanks again.

For those that constantly want Xander to be the hero- It was called BUFFY the Vampire Slayer for a reason. The Cult of Xander really torques me off.

Joss Whedon was not a very good show runner. He was incredibly inventive and imaginative but most of the time those types are LOUSY show runners. The only one worse was Marti.

They were lousy at continuity which was the shows biggest failing. Not to mention the PC parts that constantly made your eyes roll (the whole Willow - GAY NOW- thing was really stupid)

Clearly under the circumstances they were all suffering from PTSD by Season 6 ( who would not have been?)
BUT instead of using that Joss/Marti/ whoever instead just turned the show into a soap opera.

Buffy was the one that was always on the spot- as the Slayer that was just the way it was. In the end it was on HER. That was something the others never seemed to get. They could all walk away if they wanted- she could not. That choice was the fundamental difference that somehow was not acknowledged.

Your story put Buffy on the extreme end of things- more as regards her character then anything else. But since lots of stories do that with the other charactors I am not going to complain much. And frankly as stupid as some of the things that were done in Season 6 & 7 it is certainly not much out of alignment with canon.

One thing was clear to me was that Joss was much more interested in Angel then BTVS after season 5. To me he always has seemed somewhat resentful that BTVS has gotten more recognition then Angel. Now how much of that is wrapped up in his feud with SMG is unknown but after seeing how petty he can be I would not be surprised that it was a lot of the reason.
Comments from author:
Thank you. I never understood how everything got dumped on Buffy in particular, and Angel and Cordelia came out smelling like roses. I mean come on, yes Cordelia seemed to grow up, and start to care about people, or at least the AI team anyway. But, that anyone would think she had done enough to actually ascend - huh???

You know i totally agree with giles and have lamented it before that buffy was really shortchanged one after another while the ai team had it easy. Why would the powers give so much to cordelia, i can never fathom. I like the twist you made with illyria and the way it ended esp the part where they only have to contend with humanity's evil as the supernatural ws deliiberately purged from the world. Its also poignant when one of them asked, when the last vampire dies what am i going to do now? At least thety got their reprieve to start over. Thank you really for your stories!

Hey i dunno if youre familiar with tia carreres tv series the relic hunter? Shes sydney fox, a sexy and bad ass tomb raider and collector. But with a good heart. Maybe a crossover in the coming weeks? Im really crossing my fingers!

Thank you, I'm glad you liked it.

I saw Relic Hunter a long time ago. I will consider putting it on my bucket list.

Unfortunately/fortunately, I have several open stories that I am trying to get back to, and then have about 8 to 10 stories waiting in the wings for me to get to.

It's not about dislike. I just had some trouble following the storyline. Buffy was very Mary-Sue. When has she ever been so aggressive? And dismissive? Sure, she has her flaws, I've pointed them out myself a time or two. But it seemed like she, and Angel for some reason, were taking too much time out of the story to tell everyone how their always right and everyone else is always wrong.

I'm a firm believer that Buffy was suffering some serious PTSD for a few seasons before the end. Her decisions were all over the place, and her ego was out of control. She always had an 'I'm the slayer, and your not' out look. But telling the others to fall in line? That the only person who had her back was Spike?

Lets take the vineyard into account this moment. Other then Calab saying he had something of hers, there was no proof. Buffy did what she's done every season since the start, and walked head first into a trap. People died, people were maimed.

It happens, its Btvs.

But then she decided that since Calab was hanging out there then there had to be something special about the place. Her idea? Lets go attack it again. No further planning, no other weapons, most of her forced depleted. Of course the others would disagree, it was a bad plan.

The fact that she found something 'special' there doesn't follow any storyline, or make any since at all. A weapon no one had heard about in the entire series, backed up by someone living in the magic thingie in the middle of a graveyard. It only seemed to be that Joss wanted her to be right, so he made her right.

I'm getting off topic, sorry. But you seem to have taken the worst parts of Buffy's personality and run with them. It was never just the 'Buffy' the vampire slayer show. Xander, Willow, Giles, Dawn, Anya, Cordy, Angel, Oz, Riley, even Spike. It was a team that got things done. That carried the story, made it entertaining.

And sure, some of us have our favorites. But we can't lose the plot just because we don't like a few of the characters.

The story doesn't seem to have any spelling or grammar problems, it has a beginning, middle, and end. It's just that the characters themselves don't seem to 'be' themselves.

): )
Comments from author:
I agree with many of your analogies. I think the only parts that you are missing, or overlooking is that this is Angelus and not Angel. And, at this point in the storyline Buffy was beyond breaking, she was broken, which was kinda the FE and Illyria's plan in the first place. I always thought the FE had more to do with the way everyone acted than what was portrayed on the show.

I didn't intend for her to come off as Mary-Sue, simply that there were many things set in place by the Partners and the Powers, which included the Buffy and Angel(us) and this was simply the result of it.

Not making any excuses for my story, but I did write this a long time ago, when all the crap that occurred in the last Season of Buffy, and the last 2 of Angel, so I'm sure that came across in my writing more than I intended.

I appreciate your reading and reviewing, and appreciate your thoughtfully written review. Thanks.

....So very confused. So you ment to write Buffy as a self righteous crazy bitch, right? I mean, otherwise I don't know whats going on. Kennedy gets punished because....? Cordy gets punished because....? Xander's dead instead of Anya, who wants sex with Giles?

Review of chapter "Make The World Go Away" from missinglink
Not sure I am what you would call a fan, but did want to at least say something. The writing is good, but it is not my preferred storyline. I don't see a difference between this and the Pro-Xander or Pro-Willow fanfic that seem to wash away the protagonists guilt and simply assign it to others that were at fault. Here you are saying that all of Buffy's failings were the fault of the Powers? That Willow and Giles betrayed her and they were wrong to do so. That is, from my opinion, ignoring that you Buffy had many faults, as they all did. Each of the characters were flawed and those flaws made up the inner conflict of the group and the plot devices for moving the series along. The betrayal in Season 7 is overused as a "poor Buffy" moment when the world is against her, when the arguments were sound by the others as to why they questioned her reckless leadership. Their ejecting her from the house was harsh and overdone, but it was also in response to her not listening to others and considering that if she wants to set out a course of action she needs to give sound reasoning and good cause after the debacle from the previous raid of the Vineyard.

Other side note, not quite sure about the heavy Cordy bashing. While she had good and bad times on both series, she was no where near the shrew harpy she is portrayed here as. The uneven portrayal that is a far departure from series canon for not only her, but the others (Wes & Faith?!?), is what I would say is the most glaring part that hurts this. If there is genuine development that leads to the characters you show then that is one things, but you either need to say/show the reason for departure from canon or heavy warning at the opener (don't remember if you did).

Hope this helps and not trying to be an ass here, just wanted to vent as while I like you style of writing, the topic and characterizations are leaving me flat and a bit annoyed. It seems to just not be one I will enjoy and so will wish you the best and hope the others that do enjoy keep you inspired.
Comments from author:
Thank you for your wonderfully written review. I did say this was not Kennedy or Cordelia friendly, and was a dark story, but that is neither here nor there.

I tried to give reasons for how the characters were acting, but if you felt it was too one sided I can completely understand your response.

Thank you for reading, and reviewing.

How, indeed? And how many times was it closer than it needed to be and taking a bigger chunk out of Buffy's body and soul than it had needed to do (not to mention the sacrifices and wounds of others)? Makes you wonder.

You know I never understood that part. Anya was demon for over a thousand years and they never ask her about anything. Xander and later Willow always told her to shut up. She could have spare them a lot off researche time. to bad they didn't use it.

Well not really a surprise they did the same with Buffy. Buffy needed them for researches because she hated that part. Buffy loved them, don't get me wrong, but even without them Buffy would still be alive because her mom was still around and after her mom died she had Dawn. I'm talking about the time after the Master and her first dead.

Those three Giles, Xander and Willow were so arrogant to think they are the ones who knew everything and could decide what's best for you. Very arrogant if you ask me. An over thousand year former demon and a Slayer who are to stupid to know anything and to make decisions of their own.

Nobody knows everything and everybody knows nothing and together you know a lot but still not everything.

nothing more to say that you don't about already.
Comments from author:
I always felt the same way, and felt like any minute they would turn to her and smack their heads, and say "I could have a V8."

Not too smart of them.

never been a fan of the concept of a vampire society.

As for what the Powers have done, something made it possible for people to have a society that didn't revolve around the supernatural

Though I'm pleased that Connor is getting along so well with Harmony (and that she's apparently treating him nicely, rather than the way Cordelia does), I can't help being really worried about what will happen if Illyria succeeds in taking over the new-and-improved Buffy as her 'shell'. That could bring added layers of badness to the party.

That will unfold soon, and I hope you'll like the way I handled it.
