Review:
I just love the fact that the Romulan Empire exists in this universe and the fact that they gave the Turians a big butt whupping and they didn't use kid gloves around the Batarians is just super fun.

You also told another reviewer that there will be another Star Trek race appearing later in the series? Can't wait to see who it will be.

Amazing how one "innocent" little spell is giving everyone else a headache.

Keep up the good work.

Edit: I think the Klingons would love the Krogans but then they might have to "ask" the Salarians to cure the Krogan's little problem before giving them a proper welcome.

LOL.

Edit 2: A Turian sucking his thumb? Now that would be interesting to see. LMAO.
Comments from author:
I don't believe the Romulans have a concept of kid gloves. The technological level they have right now would be equivalent to what Earth gained post-Halloween '97 so late 24th century meaning the Alliance has probably late 25th to early 26th despite using older ship designs. As for the Turians and the Batarians, neither species has the technological capablity to match the Romulans let alone the Alliance The decapitation of Batarian leadership by the Tal Shiar could be considered a measured response to the single attack on the Romulan colony. Given that the Hegemony probably uses slavers and merc gangs available as privateers, that would make sense

As for a Star Trek race, I'm split on exactly which one should appear. I'm split on which one to do. Part of me wants to see Klingons meet the Krogan. Another part wants to reveal the fate of the Vulcans. Another part is thinking a slightly altered version of the Dominion like an alternate version of the Counicl (Not set up with Founder worship as a basis). As for the original race, I actually meant an original race (one that I have been working on). I just don't know a good time to use it.

Edit: I could just see the Klingons and the Krogan working together/fighting each other as well as the Council's reaction.

Sparatus: (Rocking back and forth) "Another race of krogan but this time they're more advanced than us. We're screwed."

Review:
Interesting chapter I wonder are you going to introduce the other races of Star Trek like the Bajorans, the Klingons, the Trill, the BORG, the Dominion, etc. etc. ?
Comments from author:
I do have plans for an original race to show up sometime in the future but the Borg are not on the table at this point and time.

Wow, things have gone crazy on and around Eden Prime.

And Sovereign hasn't made his appearance yet.

But what the heck did Shepard do in the past that caused her and three others to be name after the Horsemen of the Apocalypse?

Hehe, the Starfleet Time Police have been warned not to stop Shepard from messing around with time and space.

Poor Time and Space.

Keep up the interesting work.
Comments from author:
I'm very glad you are enjoying this thus far. Sovereign will make his appearance in the next chapter though.

As for what Shepard and company did in the past, they did what they had to do. I'm wondering how many people will figure out who War, Pestilence, and Famine are before I reveal who they actually are.

As for the DTI being informed to not interfere with anything Shepard will do, they're trying to make certain the timeline is protected so it leads up to their time.

I will try to keep up the work.

re
"The idea of a Starfleet vessel allowing a AvP "game" shipwide sans safety protocalls makes me whimper.

Note that in canon STNG and later, to allow serious injury or death to living (as compared to holo-characters) people on holodecks requires _deliberately_ bypassing or overriding the safety protocols. And IIRC doing so without a _really_ good reason and proper authorization, Picard on the Enterprise for example, is cause for disciplinary action. See B'Elanna Torres on Voyager, and note that she was the ship' chief engineer and would have such authority, which she misused.

IOW having them offline would _not_ be just a matter of _forgetting_ to switch them on, but require deliberate effort and might easily trigger alarms meant to stop such stupid actions. Turning them off on holo-emitters outside of a ship's holodeck would presumably get you court martialed, doing it an using _dangerous_ holo critters would probably get you cashiered and imprisoned. Having someone, even a green ensign, _that_ stupid and irresponsible get into and thru Starfleet Academy would suggest their selection and evaluations need serious review. The idea that it might have been senior officers who authorized it is even worse.

rant off

Comments from author:

Holodeck malfunction. It wasn't intentional. Shepard was double checking the protocols to ensure they wouldn't go offline. I never specify that the safety protocols were intentionally deactivated."

*********

" Also, make sure your safety protocols are online. We lost one of our ships, the Kiev, because someone didn't check the protocols. It didn't help the ship also had emitters on every deck.”

“So holograms can kill.” He said receiving a nod in reply. “What kind of program could do that much damage?”

“Somebody on the ship was an AvP fan.” Shepard answered. “A late twentieth century science fiction called Aliens versus Predator. Somebody wanted to do a xenomorph hunt and protocols malfunctioned. Granted, I've done similar programs in the past but I always triple check the safety protocols and I program in a few Predators as back-up.”

OK, the protocols were _somehow_ off by "accident". But that something _that_ critical could go offline without triggering _noisy_ alarms and/or automatically shutting down the holodeck or putting it in "safe mode" is stupid. As in "WARNING, WARNING HOLODECK SAFETY PROTOCOLS ARE OFFLINE, DO NOT ENTER THE HOLODECK UNTIL THEY ARE ACTIVATED AND FUNCTIONING PROPERLY". Creating such "malfunctions" would be a sneaky way to commit murder or "people sabotage". "Ensign, what happened to your ship's command crew"? "They were all having a mass skydive on the holodeck and _somehow_ the safeties went off and they all died on impact". "Well, I guess you are in command of your heavy cruiser until we can get some replacement senior officers to you, and that will take a few weeks". "I suspect that the command experience will vastly speed up my next few promotions". OR.... "Key members of that ship's crew will be killed the next time they use the holodeck, making the ship easy to capture".

ps : please update soon the second chapter please
Comments from author:
Wow, remember to breathe.
As for some of your suggestions, that would be a little too much. For one, I have limited myself somewhat as by the confines of the Halloween spell required someone to wear a specific costume. The costumes worn were of characters in the twenty-fourth century of Star Trek. Since the Tholions stopped being interesting as an enemy by then, they would be out. I can get away with Borg technology in the story as Willow had dressed as Captain Janeway. (Please read Chaos Effect: The Fleet of Chaos for clarification.)
The Iconions were long gone and only had one episode where they were significant. Cardassian technology isn't all that great in comparsion to Federation technology. Instead of building a better ship to take on a Galaxy class starship, they would wolfpack Galors and try to defeat the ship with numbers.
As for cloaking devices, this Starfleet isn't hampered by the Treaty of Algeron which restricted the canon Starfleet from having a cloak. It helped that Xander had tried to dress as Picard only to become Sisko and the Defiant had a Romulan cloaking device.
This story, "Chaos Effect", will have a blend between Mass Effect, Buffy, and Star Trek. Don't worry about that. There will still be a search for new life, new civilizations, and all those strange anomalies that any decent Starfleet vessel seems to get involved with.
