Review of chapter "Chapter One" from DarthTenebrus
An imaginative crossover tale with BtVS's most disgusting character next to the First Evil itself; I'm not so sure I would have dared to write anything with Caleb myself, as I hated the character so much I wished (oops wrong word there) he would just fade into forgottenness. As I write this review, however, I look back on the series and I begin to realize his importance as a balance; as the First Evil's most powerful agent Caleb strikes fear into the viewer's heart that no other Big Bad ever could. Most who serve the designs of the First do so unknowingly; Caleb is different in that regard as he has full knowledge of what the First Evil is and what it represents, and that plus his willingness to serve the First gives him power that nothing that has gone against the Slayers ever had.
This story has the potential to frighten the reader more than watching Caleb's part in the series ever could.
Comments from author:
I always liked Caleb myself (although perhaps like is wrong word... more like I found myself fascinated by him) purely because he was so evil. He didn't want to end the world in order to make things better for demons or to get home. He just did it because he could. Therefore, he was as scary as hell, and that coupled with the way he effortlessly beat just about everyone during his first appearance makes him interesting. That said, it's precisely because of his evilness that he's almost impossible to write.
Anyway, I'm glad you liked the story and found him even more frightening than the canon version.
