Review of chapter "No Plan Ever Survives –" from gaiawolf
Ah, I read these back over on fanfiction. Does this mean that you will continue the series past episode 102? I truly and honestly hope you will because I like how you write the team dynamics, and I'm curious as to how Buffy will reintegrate into the team since she is no longer THE slayer, merely a slayer. Heh, merely a slayer.

Even if you don't it's still nice to reread the series.
Comments from author:
There IS no "merely" to that description. :)

I'm not sure... I'm going to try. My co-author seems to have dropped off the face of the internet and out of writing entirely, as near as I can tell. So if/when I do, I'd be continuing it along unless and until I can find another co-writer who understands both the series and the characters that I can work with.

And as I have a lot of story projects on the burner right now, continuing another series by myself is kinda problematical until I get several hundred thousand other words off my plate. So... *shrug* (?)

And thanks. I'm glad to read that you like the team setup and the way Caine and I did the characterizations and character dynamics. That makes my evening. :)

I am ALWAYS down for good, old-school C/X. Nice job with the season rewrite, not just rehashing an ep with Faith inserted ('cause those usually suck). I'm almost feeling bad for the mayor's plans.
Comments from author:
Thanks. And yeah, we tried to not do just a rewrite with a few elements changed.

Review of chapter "Enemy Action?" from draconis
Very nice story.

I agree with the sentiments earlier expressed by draconin (we dragon-based lifeforms apparently have similar tastes), and I really like the growth in Faith's character...and the growth being demonstrated by the Scoobies, too.

Looking forward to what you do to and with the Buffy character...assuming she returns, I can't see her handling very well the now changed dynamic of "her" Scoobies. Perhaps she's the one who'll begin to turn dark?

And...I just bet Travers is sitting in his $5,000 chair wringing his hands and plotting nasty things ala Montgomery Burns.
Lots of intriguing ways this could go...
Comments from author:
Ugh. Now you've made me picture Quentin Travers as played by Mr. Burns. I just lost my enthusiasm for this project along with both my lunch and my sex drive. Gee, thanks. ;)

What a great start to the story arc. :-) I do love the way your stories, while fraught with danger, are also full of joy and good feelings.
Comments from author:
Thanks. :)

Heya, gotta have some up to balance the grim. For me, the humor and odd bits of lightness amid the darker and more horrific elements were always one of the things that made BtVS and AtS so much fun to watch. (That and Charisma Carpenter. It's amazing how fast my interest in AtS went away after Cordy went into a mystical coma.)

Was that Luke Perry's Pike I just saw?

Hmm... Luke Perry. It is a matter of trivial fact that he and I are the same age to the day. I look forward to seeing what you're doing with him. And by the inclusion of Buffy, I gather that we'll be seeing her soon too.
Comments from author:
He's about six years younger than me. And, yup. Well, Buffy had a cameo in this one too, but she'll continue having a parallel story for awhile.

Review of chapter "No Plan Ever Survives –" from djhardim
Very good

From another group of "Night Watchmen".....

As a cop I lost my collars to legal loopholes, but I believed in the system.

As a D.A. I lost my case to crooked lawyers, but I believed in the system.

As a judge my hands were bound by the letter of the law, but I believed in the system

.......Until they took my life away.

Then I stopped believing in the system and started believing in justice.
Comments from author:
Dark Justice? If so, good show. ;)

Dear flippin' Comic Creator Gods, *thank you* for Ferrous Ursine! Nice take on Season 3, and 90% fewer dead folks is *always* bonus. ;) I trust you're familiar with the term "headcanon"? Yeah, this story's in mine now. (And that just sounds *so* not right.)
Comments from author:
I tried a head canon once. The recoil kept giving me migraines.

Thanks. :)

Loved the chapter as always...but i have a question about the picture at the end. I recognize everyone except the guy in the lower right corner. Who is he?

I really have to compliment you on how you're weaving the character interaction together. They are gelling as a group in a believable fashion, and its a mark of your skill as a writer. Very well done.
Comments from author:
Thanks. ;)

That's a real compliment, as this is from my 2009 series of stuff from before I dropped out of writing for awhile, and I know it's a lot less polished than a lot of my more recent work. So, thanks again.

Review of chapter "Enemy Action?" from trongod
Man, I do love this! We have the privilege of watching a group of tight knit friends including and new person to their deadly group with the assorted growing pains involved as each person adjusts and gets to know the others better - something decidedly needed should they have interest in seeing the next day.

Cordelia is helping Faith is helping Xander is helping Oz... well, you get the idea... come out of their shells and show the person inside usually hidden from the world as the Gang - as 'Scoobies' has been rather adamantly refused by Faith and a new name really has yet to gel - grows stronger daily.

And even Giles is growing as he interacts with the younger generation. Be interesting to see what ideas the new weapons inspire in him once the present adventure in terror is over and he gets a chance to inspect Cordelia's recent purchases. His testing of Faith would, I should imagine, inspire him to test the others to see where their various strengths and weaknesses lie to get a better idea for group as well as individual training for the future.

And I still have trouble not going back to ff,net to read the whole series in one sitting, but SWMBO has Her Daily Honey Do List Of Doom out, so that helps with my (lack of) control issues...

Edit: Reading reviews made me realize that the group has yet to 'officially' claim the Night Watchmen name... or at least that's my excuse I'm using to read this from the beginning right now... Excelsior!!! ;^D

Heh heh heh. I knew you'd find an excuse. ;)

Enjoyable series. They should get leather jackets with their name "Night Watchmen" on them.
Comments from author:

Hrrmm. Maybe. Might be a bit too Lords of Flatbush for the Hellmouth, though. ;)

Review of chapter "Unhelpful Encounters -" from (Recent Donor)draconin
I like your Padre. I found it depressing how few people in authority positions were willing to help in canon; it's nice to meet a charming one who will. Not that I didn't understand why it was necessary for to be that way for the story line/theme in canon, but still.
Comments from author:
Yup. A combination of the "Adults are useless" trope and Joss being not only atheist, but massively anti-religious, I think. (I'm an atheist myself, but not anti-Christian. The two don't have to go together.)

In the earlier seasons, it made sense: Wilkins would have taken care to weed out anyone who was competent and to fill all of the positions of authority and influence with cronies, flunkies, or just people who were too spineless or ineffectual to oppose him. It started becoming less and less believable after season 3, when it was shown that 80% of the school was aware of Buffy and the supernatural, and that all of them saw what happened at Graduation.

It made suddenly going back to status quo in s4 kinda jarring.

Review of chapter "Unhelpful Encounters -" from Greywizard
Just realized that I'd never reviewed this story while reading the various reviews, man, and had to correct that oversight immediately. ;-(

Loving all the characterizations and the various Scooby interactions, and can't wait to see what's coming up. ;-)

I'm not all that fond of most characterizations of Cordelia, because the canon character reminds me all too strongly of several people I detested in high school for a variety of reasons, but your portrayal is excellent and the one I like best of all the fanfics I've read.

Anyway, thanks for sharing this with us. ;-)
Comments from author:
Thanks for the review.

Oddly, the canon version reminded me of various girls I liked in HS. While the canon depictions of Buffy and Willow reminded me of way too many girls I couldn't stand. Plus, Cordelia just flat had more character than any of the other BTVS girls except for maybe Tara.

With Cordelia, think about it: unlike Buffy who quit at least three times, when Cordy found out about the supernatural she screamed, bitched, snarked - and buckled down to doing something about it, even *before* her and Xander got together, and then after. She never quit and never ran away. Unlike Amy, Jonathan, Andrew, Marcie and far too many other people to list at that school, she wasn't corrupted by the contact, either - and with her character and intelligence, she could easily have turned to black magic or demons and become a seriously dangerous bad guy in s3 after Xander and Willow hurt her. In mid/late s3 when she reverted to her early s3 persona, she had ample reason to do so... and even then she helped Giles, Buffy and all the others even when she didn't have to and had all the reason in the world to turn her back on all of them.

As compared to Oz, who really was only involved because of Willow, and later because of his wolf issues, and who didn't do very much beyond what he absolutely could get by with. (And I like Oz.)

All I can say about the various writers who paint Cordelia as a one dimensional shallow bitch in fics is that apparently, they weren't watching the same show I did. They were watching some show that existed solely in their mind's eye. I've even seen you do it in a few fics, Grey, and it always makes me blink and go, "Huh?" (o0)
