Kewl. You know, if you went with the idea that Xander is a carpenter and/or a blacksmih, he would do great in the World of Lord of the Rings. Don't you think?
Comments from author:
Glad you've enjoyed the story so far.

And while Xander could definitely find work in Middle Earth, he's more concerned with straightening things out in his own world, at the moment.

Awesome story! Not only is your spelling/grammar great, but the premise is fantastically original. The wry humor that slips in every now and again is also welcome. :)
Thanks for writing and posting!

Review:
Nice. What an interesting set of repurcussions would follow in both universes!

Am off to read the second story in this series. Just one tiny, tiny quibble first, though: Sauron wasn't actually *in* Mordor during "The Hobbit". He was the "Necromancer" in the story that Gandalf and the White Council fought, and thus the reason Gandalf was absent for some of the crucial sequences in the novel. After Gandalf, Elrond, Galadriel, Saruman & etc. kicked him out of his stronghold in Southern Mirkwood, he finally returned to Mordor and got busy. He and the Mountain would still implode when Xander took off with the ring, but they wouldn't be in the same place.
Comments from author:
All I can really say here is that in *this* universe, things happened a bit differently and in a slightly different sequence.

Anyway, glad you enjoyed the story.

Great story, wonderfully done. It is really hard to make a short story complete enough that the reader isn't left feeling as though something was missing, and you have managed to make this whole.

thanks, I appreciate the feedback and the kind words.

Review:
This is just a neat story. While we know about the many Powers of Evil in the Jossverse, I'm not sure we ever met any of the Powers of Good. It always seemed to me that the Powers That Be were, and I am stealing this idea from the D&D game, more about Order than Good. They didn't really care about individuals because we are all just interchangable robots to them. Who cares about the Death Camps as long as the trains still run on time. I think that the real reason that the CoWs and the PTB were ticked at the Scoobies is they were just such a cool group of Chaotic Powers. And now that Xander has all his memories and The One Ring, I think the Forces of Chaos are going to have a new champion. I hope you write more about this, your, version of the Buffyverse.
Comments from author:
I'm considering several ideas for how best to follow this up. Xander meeting the PTB will feature in all of them, I can promise that. ;-)

Review:
That was certainly different. Much as I'd like to think that the forces of Good wouldn't do that to someone, I just can't make myself believe it of the Jossverse. Whistler did not impress me as someone who really made an effort to deliver the right information to help in a situation - if he knew Buffy was the Slayer and that Angel was supposed to have a hand in the Acathala situation - if he even knew there was an Acathala situation coming up - why not say something about that pesky Clause? Clearly, either Angel or Buffy or both of them as well as Buffy's friends were considered expendable.

Not much of a stretch to see them considering Xander expendable, or just taking his abilities away and passing them to someone more malleable. Considering the passing on of the Slayer essence, the passing on of Doyle's visions...

and Bilbo just continues his merry way. Life for him just got more challenging.
Comments from author:
As others have pointed out, we never really saw any real indications of Forces of Good, as oposed to the Forces of Order that seemed to be in charge in the Joss-verse. Joss seemed to have a fairly strong nihilistic streak when it came to the Good Guys being rewarded for their efforts: nothing ever seemed to work out for the Scooby Gang or their allies. The only people who seemed to escape being smacked in the teeth were Riley and Sam Finn, and that seemed to be as much because they left Sunnydale and got the hell out, than for any other reason.

Life for Bilbo will definitely be *much* more challenging, what with him not having the Ring available now to make him invisible when the various forces of Evil are around. I personally don't give him much of a chance of survival without help. ;-(

Thanks for your comments.

Lovely - always nice to see someone put the boot into canon big-time, and I hadn't really expected to see a response to that challenge so soon. Many thanks!

Review:
oh yeah that would change things in both worlds.in LOTR world the race of man wouldn't have a central threat to rally against and would probaly drift apart and would the elves still fill the need to leave?in BTVS world with the ring Xander might be on par with the PTB and the other forces of evil.if you continue this should be interesting to see what powers Xander gets and how the ring changes him.great story hope you continue with it.
Comments from author:
I'll probably be dealing with the subsequent events in Middle Earth only in the most minimal ways, unless I can see a really good story possibility. Although I do believe that Aragorn and Arwen will still get together.

The level of power that Xander has received and the effect the Ring has on his character will be examined in a future story. The way his new empowerment affects his realtionships with his friends will also be looked at.

I guess I don't need to say that Xander will be meeting with the PTB, do I? ;-)

Now *that* was fun. I love it. I only wish I knew who had received Xander's stolen powers...

Great idea.
Comments from author:
Glad you enjoyed it.

The recipient of Xanader's powers wasn't anyone from a specific story, just some poor schmuk who made the mistake of dealing with Whistler and his bosses.

This was really cool. I love the way that you gave Xander back his memories and destroyed the Dark Lord in the process.
