I remember reading this one before, and I loved it just as much the first time as I did this time (the system seems to have reset and dumped a lot of reviews). Orlin was such a wonderful character, and his interactions with Sam were almost heartbreaking. I think you've captured his essence perfectly here. The idea that Joyce was a previously ascended Ancient is a unique idea, and somehow just feels right.

Thanks for the review. This was, originally, part of a larger story (the Crazy Plan was also part of it) but I haven't gotten around to finishing the whole arc yet. I'm really bad at actually finishing things, you see.
