Wow. I like how you capture who Jayne truly is. He is trying to save himself from heartache and here comes River blowing down the walls. Can't wait for Zoe to find out she is expecting.

My favorite River/Jayne fic of all those I've read so far! Please tell me there's more, or a sequel eventually? The way you brought Jayne's family to life, and especially his mother, plus working in that whole 'parental' dynamic with Inara and Mal -- so empathetic and so delightfully vivid and credible.
I don't know how your schoolwork is going, but from this fic I'd have to say you've been putting your time to good use, and have obviously learned a lot that's not usually on the syllabus. Kudos.

I expect a lot of violence in retaliation. And I find it funny that Jayne wouldn't even notice that he was the one hurt. Maybe Simon starting shooting people? And will we get to see River go cranky? Despite the fact that she's pregnant?
Like this story. According to the family trivia, I seem to understand that Brigitte and Bai got pergant by the age of 14?

Thanks. er, explanation for that. I was half-awake when I wrote the family tree and I suck at math - they were supposed to be at least sixteen - like the old west marriages or arranged marriages, the younger the better.
