Review of chapter "And the rest is history" from RebeccaAshling
Review:
I really like all the stories in this series and would love to see you finish them but I suspect that you're fighting tooth and claw with that dreaded big bad known as Real Life. It'd also be interesting how you might deal with the revelations in Series Three of DW concerning the chameleon arch and the Master - all those possible Time Lords in hiding. One last question: are you implying that the Meddling Monk from the William Hartnell era was an earlier incarnation of the Watcher? Thanks for all the chapters you've been able to post so far.

Rebecca
Comments from author:
I am currently deep in the throes of writing my doctoral thesis, which means I have had very little time to write anything else for a while. But I do want to get back to this stuff, because it's a fun idea to play with. As for the potential in the chameleon arch ... well, the Doctor has the Master as his Nemesis, and the Watcher has the Sorceror - and how else do you think Ethan Rayne managed to survive both the War of Time and the First's purging of the Council on Earth ..? *g*

And speaking of certain chaotic Time Lords, while the Watcher has worn the tonsure in his time, it's far more likely that the meddling monk was one of the Sorceror's incarnations ... :-)

Review of chapter "And the rest is history" from RebeccaAshling
Review:
Hmm, I've remembered that the Meddling Monk had corrupt dealings with the Daleks so almost certainly he's an incarnation of the Sorcerer... though the FASA Doctor Who RPG did suggest that he was an incarnation of the Master, a speculation which I could never take seriously. Anyways, I hope your thesis goes well and that you get your Doctor(Who)ate.

Best wishes,
Rebecca

Awww. One thing I really disliked about the later seasons of Buffy was the disintegration of the Buffy/Giles Watcher/Slayer relationship. I'm really enjoying what you've done with it here, Time Lord spin and all.
Comments from author:
Thanks. It did all go a little sour, especially in the final season - and unnecessarily so, I feel. I think that's one of the reasons I was so disconcerted by how well the cross-over works. The Watcher/Slayer relation matches up so well to the Time Lord/Companion comparison.

Although I have a worried suspicion that that makes Xander the tin dog ...

Review of chapter "What matters" from VillageOrchid
Review:
I do always wonder how the timelords exist if they think of us as so close to apes. Perhaps they are part celestial in orgin (like the human shaped time keepers/guardians from that multipart adventure) or had an ancient civilization that rose and fell so many times over the millenium that their orgins in nature are lost... if that is the case, it hardly makes them so much better than humans. But I think that's one mystery that the show will never fully explain. But in fan-fic perhaps you can come up with your own interpretation.

I rather liked that extreme future in the first new doctor who where they showed the genome of humanity becoming so many races other than human.
Comments from author:
Well, evolution is an on-going thing, so it makes sense that humanity would start to diversify as time goes on.

Time Lords are tricky, given that they don't exist in linear time; it's hard to tell if they evolved like that, or if they've been created that way. They seem to be a combination of both alien evolution and intentional scientific intervention - but as you say, it's a mystery the show is never likely to explain.

Amazingly fast update! I don't think I'd quite finished commenting on ch1... Think I'd like to see longer chapters, though.
Comments from author:
Well, some of them are soundbites and some of them are complete sentences. I'm not deliberately drabbling any of this, but sometimes that seems to be all a scene needs. Longer scenes will mean longer chapters ...
