Review of chapter "Leaving Sunnydale" from Harry
Review:
So, with Joyce being a immortal, and supposedly dead, she is heading for Seacover, and laying low there. At least she knows Connor. But, she needs to keep it quiet. Even with Joe knowing about immortals, this is one time its best to keep things QUIET!

I enjoyed this story. It was a suitable prologue to something bigger.

I do wonder why, in these types of stories, Joyce is always practically an ancient. I mean, I'm sure there were immortals born in the 18th and 19th centuries, right? And yet the MacLeods still manage to be mentors to Joyce (or Buffy, as the case may be).

Anyway, as I said, I liked the story and think you did a good job setting up the next one. I look forward to it.

Very interesting. I like Joyce so far, and Amanda as well. They seem to be on track to becoming normal, or at least as normal as they can be. Joyce is obviously very well adjusted. Amanda is nice too.
Of course, somehow I suspect a large part of it will go to shit when Buffy's resurrected. On one hand, they ripped her out of heaven. On the other, wouldn't Joyce be happy to have her daughter back? Besides the fact, of course, that they did not (and could not) know she was in heaven. Plus, I always felt that if Willow learned anything of Maimonides (and I think she would have, being Jewish and a geek) she wouldn't believe in an actual heaven anyway. On the other hand, a mother's anger knows no bounds. But Buffy should be a bit better off psychologically, as she'd have somethign to fixate on - finding Dawn. And once she'd find Joyce, she'd be a lot better off. Of course, that'll kinda stump the Scoobies, since I doubt they'll be returning to Sunnydale... yeah, it'll be a mess.
So, Petronilla of Aquitaine, yes (that was her childhood name, so I tend to stick to it)? She wasn't exactly an innocent maiden. After all, she was Eleanor's sister. And she did semi-seduce Raoul I of Vermandois, who was married when he decided he wanted her instead (and she appeared to be just as much in love with him as he was with her). He... either died a few years before her, or their romance ended and they divorced a year before his death. Records are kinda unclear. Her daughters' life kinda sucked after she died. But she was apparently very loyal to her sister until her early death.
In any case, interesting idea. I'll be watching.
Comments from author:
Well, although Buffy WILL be resurrected - eventually (in a sequel) - don't expect it to follow canon. There will be a few twists and turns along the way.

I do hope this eventually will be added to. I like this version of Joyce, but them I'm a major Joyce fan.
Comments from author:
More is in the works. 1 - 10 short ficlets to bring in some needed characters and backstory and then a sequel. Hopefully in a few months I'll start posting those.

(Had to re-enter my review as web-site lost it. Differs from original)

The story is quite good, but I was disappointed it ended so abruptly.
Definitely ready for more.

Is the story you talked about when you responded to an earlier review the sequel? Would you please ID the story? ("As you've probably noticed reading the little bit I've written of that I have so far, the whole Buffy resurrection goes very badly for those involved.")

I couldn't find an obvious sequel nor in one of the listed series, and none of the "Joyce-related" stories seem to fit.
Comments from author:
Thanks for the comments.

The abrupt ending (I don't think it is THAT bad :-) , but I do plan to fix that eventually so it isn't as jarring.) is because I decided to change my approach to the story. Instead of one long story followed by a sequel it is now going to be (if I ever write it all) a series of shorter stories strung together set in Seacover. And then the actual sequel to that series involving Buffy.

As far as that one goes, no it isn't posted here. It's just a couple paragraphs on my blog - more of an opening scene and semi-outline than a story at this points. When it is finished it'll end up here.

Oh, I loved that!!! i wonder how Joyce will react when the Foolish Four bring Buffy back from the dead.
Comments from author:
I really haven't decided. Other than she won't be too happy with the results.

As you've probably noticed reading the little bit I've written of that I have so far, the whole Buffy resurrection goes very badly for those involved. But at least Buffy doesn't come back as a brain-eating zombie :-). And Xander was elsewhere when it happened. So for once he's guilty-free in the "Messing with Buffy's Life" sweepstakes.

I thought that I wrote an opinion about this story that was more recent than the one back in '06.
Anything I say now would only pile on more praise for this Joyce centered tale. My only regret
would be that it is so well done that you only needed 4 chapters to lay it out completely.

I too, like the story to date. Well developed on all fronts, and an excellent beginning. I would have expected Dawn to be much more initially upset that Joyce wasn't there for Buffy (given how easily and vocally Dawn showed her displeasure with things in the series), but I think you still made it believable, especially within the Sunnydale "life is bizarre" context.

Like some of the others, I really don't understand the parsing of what is likely to be a single cohesive longer story into small vignettes. I think this means your readers can't "Track" just this story (because it is classified "complete") so if we want to keep updated we have to "Track" everything you write? It's similar to those authors that submit each chapter of a story as a single "story" on the website. Such story submittal methods make things much more awkward for readers, and possibly dissuades some readers from following such stories...it does me.

Anyway, like I said...excellent start to what could be an excellent story. Thanks for sharing your work.
Comments from author:
Thanks for the comments.

This was never meant to be a very long stand-alone story. 6 parts at the most and then shorter vignettes before the sequel.

Unfortunately, this story has been stagnating/on life support for 2 years. Going to the vignette style now instead of adding the last two chapters (which basically just covers the integration of the watcher and co. into the life of Joyce and Dawn) is the only way I can get past that. And I might finally get to the sequel sometime before the end of the decade.

As far as tracking goes... as long as I turn this into a series BEFORE adding the next story, I believe anyone tracking this should get update notices for future stories in the series (A sort of pseudo-series tracking) without having to track everything I post to TtH (Not that I'm a very prolific writer anyway...)
