This was a lovely story. And for an End of the World story, it had a surprisingly upbeat ending. In fact, I wouldn't mind seeing stories set in the world the Slayers and their supporters create. ;-)

Maybe a little over-optimistic, this sounds like an extinction-level event which means that darkness is going to be the least of their problems - you'd get an ice age, massive tidal waves, pollution of the oceans, etc. But it's an interesting idea, glad you wrote it.

Well, I'm always a little bit of an optimist ... *g*

It would depend on just how big the meteor is, and exactly where it hits. I was thinking something big enough to wipe out London and most of the South of England, but not so big as to take out the whole of the country - so minimal tidal waves because the water would be rushing in from the Atlantic to fill the crater, rather than rushing out due to displacement. But ice age, probably, and oceanic pollution almost certainly.

Whether it would wipe out mankind or not ... well, we're a tenacious bunch, and we've learned to survive in some very extreme conditions. Are the Slayers going to save humanity, or just lead their last stand? (Having a little magic on hand, and access to other dimensions, might come in really handy ...)
