Review of chapter "Classified Information" from VillageOrchid
Review:
I think it would make more sense if this were the first chapter and you had another log or briefing to the Admiral Kirk (as he was for a brief period of time before ST movie #1). Otherwise, this doesn't really seem like a stargate crossover -- unless you invoke the quantum mirror to a more SG1 type universe and the Trill symiont to the Tok'ra or the Gou'ld themselves. So it seems like a start, but doesn't really tell me enough to be more than an opening beat in a story (even if the story were to only have two beats).
Comments from author:
It's very strongly implied that the signal picked up by the Enterprise was a beacon left there by an SG-Team, and that the "naquadah" signature was a 'Gate. I felt that was more than enough to qualify it as a crossover-- I said right in the summary this was an attempt at cross *without* using a Mirror.

As we have no idea what % of planets in the galaxy actually *have* 'Gates, and it's easy for a ship with transporters to run around snatching 'Gates up (as was shown in Season 9), I thought the implication was pretty clear that something had happened to cut Earth off from the Network not long after the events of the currently-airing series. Perhaps the war with the Ori ended badly for life all over the galaxy? Anyway, the Trek aliens presumably sprung up on planets the Ancients and/or the Goa'uld did *not* seed with Humanity.

I have no plans to write more in this 'verse at this time, though if I'm struck by inspiration that may change.

Shades of the "Omega Directive" on ST: Voyager, only much more intriguing! An excellent job of combining the universes, without having to back-flips or violent time-line alterations to achieve it.

Good golly there would be a lot of planets that they cannot go to!
Comments from author:
It depends, really. We know a lot of planets have gates, but a lot of gates got stolen in a recent episode... it would be easy enough for someone to have done it again to most 'gated worlds to "contain" the Tau'ri, and then there's the notion that the Ancients only put gates on planets they were interested in, which if they had their own version of the Prime Directive might mean they left a lot of worlds that had evolve their own life alone ... =)

Good idea that needs to be developed.
Do you really think that Kirk would just leave it at that? No-way!!!!!

All the best,
Dave T.

This just made me laugh. Well done! I can completely hear Captain Kirk dictating this, down to the befuddled tone of voice. And the touch with the Admiral's desk is precious.

Ah, now where's the chapter in which Admiral Kirk finally gets his paddy fingers on all of those reports and the background information as to exactly why said things are so classified? ;-D

Great stuff, thanks for sharing! :-D
