Not-So-Blithe Spirits by RevDorothyL

What if Buffy and Angel and some of those closest to them had even more shared history than they thought, being simply the latest incarnations of some of the heroes (and sometime-villains) of old?

This short series attempts to explore that question, applying some of the theological assumptions of the last three seasons of Xena (as well as in the fifth season Hercules episode Revelations) to the Buffyverse at key moments. For Buffy, it's about what happened to her right after "The Gift", and for Angel and Spike, it's about the immediate aftermath of the final AtS episode "Not Fade Away".

I had to go even more AU from the Xena/Hercules canon on the second story, especially, so ardent Xenites are asked to repress all memory of the episodes dealing with modern-era incarnations of the characters (from "The Xena Scrolls" to "Soul Possession," as well as the two 'Hercules-is-apparently-immortal-and-masquerading-as-actor-Kevin-Sorbo' episodes of H:TLJ), and pretend that the 6th season X:WP episodes "You Are There" and "Path of Vengeance" never existed.

In other words, in this version of the mythology we’ll assume that Xena never fought Odin for the golden apples and Aphrodite and Ares remained mortal, with no noticeable diminution of the quantity of either love or war in the mortal world.

Familiarity with the Xenaverse is not absolutely required, but these stories will make more sense if you've seen some later Xena episodes, such as Between the Lines, The Way, Fallen Angel, Seeds of Faith, Heart of Darkness, The God You Know and A Friend in Need.

Contains possible (mild) spoilers for all six seasons of Xena, parts of the fifth season of Hercules, the first five seasons of BtVS, and at least some of the last season of Angel.
A 'Xenaverse' answer to what might've happened to Buffy in heaven. The Archangel Michael finds himself on the hot seat.
