Summary: Mark was there when the story broke.

That Mark was there when the story broke was a total accident. The regular guy was out with the flu, so he was tagged when word of the press conference came in. Katrina, their White House correspondent, spent the whole ride over on the phone, but Mark just checked his camera. It was his first time seeing the president in person, but that was instantly forgotten as he listened to a story of wormholes and aliens and averted invasions. Collins would have loved it, he knew; Collins might actually have had a chance in hell of understanding it. Roger would have cursed the government, wondering what other secrets they'd hidden from their own people. But Mark just held the camera, steadying it for the live feed.

When the Q&A was over, and the press packets had been distributed, and the buzz had died down just enough for reflection to creep in, Katrina asked, "Can you believe it? What a story! The world almost ended."

"Yeah," he said. "It's been doing that for years, now."
