General Dru-Zod smirked as he stared out over the burning city of Metropolis. Kal-El was gone, banished to Phantom Zone forever. Brainiac’s virus had reduced this planet to rampaging primitives, incapable of any real resistance. All that remained was to retrieve a single piece of technology and his plan to reshape the world into New Krypton would be in motion.
The door behind him creaked as it opened and he looked back to find a pitifully scrawny human female standing there. She had a cold stare and some sort of primitive bladed weapon in her hands. “Kneel before Zod,” he commanded.
“Sorry, I’m not that kind of girl,” the woman replied. “I think you’re mixing me up with Faith. I’m Buffy. The Slayer. And I’m here to kill you.”
Zod raised an eyebrow as she charged at him, bringing the odd weapon up before slashing down at his chest. He watched dispassionately as the metal blade struck his body… and shattered. The shaft of the weapon slammed into his chest with more force than he thought humans capable of generating, but still not enough to be more than a minor irritant.
Backing away slowly, Buffy’s eyes went wide and he could practically smell the fear rolling off her. “How… why… what..?”
“Kneel before Zod,” he repeated. Glaring at the blonde’s knees, he unleashed his heat vision. Twin beams expertly seared through her kneecaps, amputating both legs at the knee and cauterizing the wounds. A swift kick put the girl on her back and he watched as she rolled with the impact, trying to rise to her feet again… except for the fact that they were a few yards away, the remains of her legs still jutting up into the air where she had been previously standing.
Zod grinned as he looked down at the pitiful creature and her permanently reduced stature. “Very good.”
