Does it count as procrastination when you really do have forever?
Anya looked at Book, studying his usual outfit of grays and black, the white collar peeping out.
“Why do you always make yourself look like that?”
They’d had eternity to chat about their lives – who they’d been, roles they’d played – but she wondered why he always dressed a Sheppard.
Book abandoned his meditation. “I suppose this just feels the most like me. Why do you change so often?”
Today, she was awash in Victorian finery. Yesterday, it was jeans, the day before a simple smock dress. It only took a thought to reshape anything here. “I don’t know. Why not change things up a little?”
“There are simply roles I have no wish to relive.”
Anya rolled her eyes. “Not that whole atonement thing again. If atonement was the way out, you’d be long gone.”
Book smiled; they’d been through this before. “Atonement is not a means to an end. It is an end in itself.”
“Whatever,”Anya sighed. “So if you’re planning to atone all day, can I borrow that “good bible”? The one with the dirty bits?”
“Again?” he teased, handing her the book.
Anya shrugged. “I’ll atone tomorrow.”
Neither of them believed it – but maybe it didn’t matter.END.
