Title: In Front of the Fire (1/1)

Author: MikeDavid

Crossover: BtVS/Justice League Unlimited

Summary: Some nice Christmas fan fiction fluff. Xander and his significant other enjoy a quiet Christmas Eve alone.

Disclaimer: I don’t own Buffy or Justice League Unlimited in any way. I’m just telling a story.

Timeline: Post-Chosen (BtVS) /Post Divided We Fall (JLU)

Author’s Note: This is basically a sweet romantic fan fic for Christmas 2006. My friend Gene lent me the Justice League Unlimited Season One DVD set, and I was inspired to write this up. I hope you enjoy!

“Would you stop pacing around?”

Xander stopped and looked at the blond woman.

“They’ll be fine without you.”

“But my girls…”

“Are being watched by Willow and Kennedy. Relax.”

Xander surveyed the cabin. It was small and cozy, with an old fashioned feel. A small tree decked in Christmas finery sat gloriously in the corner. He really owed Wills for this one.

Walking over to the fireplace, Xander reached for the matches. He didn’t have any on him.

“Damn. I lost the matches. Sorry.”

“Don’t worry, Xander.”

The blonde’s eyes flashed red. The logs in the fireplace burst into flames.

“I never get tired of that trick, Kara,” Xander said as he sat down next to her on the love seat.

Kara turned around and kissed him.

“What was that for?” he asked.

“For all of this. It’s beautiful. We’ve only been dating six months.”

“I wanted our first Christmas to be great,” Xander said sheepishly. “This has never been a happy time of year for me. Too much bad history.”

“This one will be fantastic,” Kara said, snuggling with Xander as he put his arms around her. “We have tonight to ourselves. What about tomorrow?”

“My family in the afternoon, yours in the evening,” Xander said. “My girls have to work tomorrow night. I’m a little nervous, though.”

“About what? Ma and Pa Kent are sweet, and my cousin Clark is a great guy.”

“I’m not worried about me. I'm worried about you. G-Man is going to make your brain explode with questions. And Buffy is going to grill you but good. She’s going to ask if you’re a demon, among other things. And you’ll probably will get threatened with bludgeoning via shovel.”

“A shovel?”

“It’s a Scooby thing. The usual threat to potential significant others. That means they may like you.”

The pair chuckled as they drifted into telling stories about their friends and family.

Xander began to doze when Kara nudged him with her super breath.

“Wake up, sleepyhead,” she giggled.

Xander opened his eyes. Kara was standing by the Christmas tree holding a sprig of mistletoe over her head.

“Guess you have to kiss me, construction boy,” she taunted him.

“Guess I’ll have to. The sacrifices I have to make on Christmas Eve,” Xander said with a smirk.

He got up from the love seat and kissed her. They held each other in the small country cabin. Snow began to fall slowly as the moonlight streamed in. Xander had no desire to sleep outside in the cold this Christmas Eve. Everything inside was just fine for him.

Author’s Note 2: I would like to take this time to wish everybody at Twisting the Hellmouth a Merry Christmas, Happy New Year, Happy Hanukkah, or whatever holiday you hold close to your heart. Thanks to everybody who read my stories. Thanks to everybody who reviewed my stories and gave me both praise and advice. I appreciate it.

I also would like to thank the rest of you for writing your stories. It was stories like the “A Year in the Life” series, “Dawn Winchester”, “Distant Elephants”, “Family Ties’, “Bridges”, and many others that made me want to throw my hat in the fan fiction ring.

Again, Merry Christmas.
