He sits next to her on the couch and watches her as she watches the television. He’s mesmerized by the way her face lights up, the way her lips quirk upward into a smile before she breaks into full blown laughter. He doesn’t get why she likes these shows about everyday people and normal lives. Thinks maybe it’s because she can still remember normal and he just can’t relate. For him it’s nothing more than a fuzzy memory, its edges tainted by fire and the image of his mother pinned to a ceiling, bleeding, mouth open in a silent scream.
